So I've never been very athletic. Like, I'm not a lazy person, I just never really participated in sports teams, although I sort of wish I did.
So this summer my friends are creating a soccer team and asked me if I wanted to join, which I do but I don't want to be a complete let down and suck.
So.. ideas to improve myself, prep myself?? _________________

hmm, well i think that just practice in general would help. You could also ask your friends for help, like maybe even just one of them and then you two could practice all the time or something. Hope I helped! _________________

^ Definitely. Not being great at sports shouldn't stop you, it should be an incentive to improve! And it works, to practice with a friend on improving. I helped someone on my soccer team a few years back and it was crazy to see how much she improved just by doing a little extra practice (maybe like 30 mins every team practice we had)! So I agree that you should find a friend, see if she'll do some drills with you and help you out. And I don't know if this will help, but me and a few of my team mates would always get together out of practice one or two times a week to go for runs. Not competitive ones, but just ones to stay active, and we'd sing out team song while we did it to keep our spirits up and to encourage anyone that might be falling behind. It's hard, but it got our blood pumping and the endorphins running, AND boosted our teamwork! _________________

I think what you should do is maybe do some soccer drills. Get together with a friend that plays soccer and they can run you through some things to improve ball handling and coordination. I'm not so great with controlling soccer balls because I have never played soccer on a team in my life but I have found after years of school gym class that it gets way easier with practice, and I could actually be pretty decent now. Also maybe go to the gym and work on your leg muscles to build up strength in your legs, and running would be good because you need to run for a while in soccer. If you have more endurance you can concentrate on just playing the game. Hope that helps, but I'm sure you won't be a complete letdown! Sounds like it won't be super competitive anyway,,so just have fun : ) _________________

^Yeah, I agree.
Just get into the mode of soccer, and start practicing. Even if a friend a busy, you can kick it in your backyard, to practice your kicking skills. You also run quite a bit in soccer, so maybe start going for a run/jog around your neighborhood, to prep yourself for the running portion.
Sounds like it will be lots of fun! _________________
