Alright guys I need some advice. You all know I'm on the job hunt right now and I have two interviews this week. One is at my favorite clothing store as a sales associate. The other is at a really nice nail salon.
Here's my dilemma. After working in retail for a couple of years I feel like I'm ready to try something else for a change. Plus the pay is a bit better for the receptionist job (only by $1-2, but still). Anyways, here's my issues:
The clothing store: It's a 15min drive from my house. The latest I'll have to work is 10PM because the mall closes at 9. It's my FAVORITE store to shop at. I know the manager (I used to shop all the time at a place she used to work at) so if I did get offered a job and didn't take it I would feel really guilty because I know her and I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable shopping there anymore. I'm not sure how strict they are about selling and meeting quotas.
The salon: I feel that I really want a change from retail, and this would be a bit less laborious work. The pay is a little better. The store is just opening so everyone would be new, I wouldn't be the only one confused and trying to figure it out. I feel like it's a bit of a step up from being a sales associate. The place closes at 7, but it's an hour away by bus. I'd be working all day Saturday and Sunday (but I'll only be taking 3 classes at school so I'll still have tons of time on my hands).
My mom is really against the salon job because it's so far, but my dad (and boyfriend) are pushing for it because the pay is better, it's better work, and the hours are reliable.
But I'm still torn. What do you guys think??? |

If I was were in this situation I would probably go for the salon since a change is always nice. And it sounds like it'd be a pretty fun job. Everything you said about it sounds fine.. good hours, not being the only new person.
The only reason I wouldn't take it is because of how long it takes to get there, but honestly, I think I would get over it. It's not like you'd have to be on a long bus ride late at night since you would only have to work until 7. _________________

| I would do the reception. There are reception and admin jobs that pay more then that but to get them you would need a bit of experience so you could get some this way. |

I would go to the clothing store because it is something you are familiar with since it's your favourite store, it's easy, and you'll get a nice discount when you do shop there (I assume). Also you'll probably have to get up earlier to go to the salon, and you can work the extra hour you'd spend traveling and the pay would be the same (or more?). If you would rather go to the salon for a change then you might as well try it out |

hmm...this is a really tough decision.
if you take the job at the nail salon, then you would have more variety of your abilities to put on your résumé afterwards. and a higher pay is always better, especially when you won't have to work as hard.
but on the other hand, it is your favourite clothing store. and you're already familiar with retail so the job would probably be quite easy for you. and you would get store discounts for sure (it can be a good and bad thing). and you could drive there in a short time easily.
i think i'd have to say to take the job at the clothing store. you would probably feel more comfortable there since you already know the manager. and you wouldnt have to waste bus money to get to work since you can drive there in a short amount of time. good luck making your decision! _________________ used to be 'sw33tlilhugz' on the old f18.
