no doubt is actually classified as ska, especially their older albums circa tragic kindom, no doubt (self titled album) and the beacon street collection.

less than jake is another good one too.

^Same haha. I went through such a ska phase two years ago. To be honest, listening to the music isnt near as fun as going to the shows...I've seen the Planet Smashers, Big D and the Kids Table, Mustard Plug, the Flatliners, Catch 22, the Rude Dudes and several more many times. Then ska bands stopeed coming to Ottawa and I just kinda grew outta it...
But yeah, it was fun whtn it lasted.

That being said, I'd make an exception if Streetlight Manifesto came to town. I love them.

^ and also ^^ well, when you know the historyof ska, like how it transformed from punk or whatever, it makes it more interesting. But yeah I see what you guys are saying.

actually, it borrowed from punk (the clash, the jam, sex pistols... which use trumpets, saxaphones and all that jazz (haha, I use that phrase all the time and this time it makes sense!))

As you know, jazz is an American thing, punk is a British thing, so yeah.

youre turning things around :s

Ska started gaining popularity in the 50s while punk was in the late 60's/70s.
the clash fused reggae and ska with punk to create their sound.
Punk borrowed from ska to create ska-punk, but that was much later on.

^yes, I am. I was having an extreme brain jam at the moment. I was thinking new wave. I was wandering why you were bringing up jazz.

I started writing the topic, left then came back, so I I ADD'd, that's all.

wow, Abbie. (I feel like an idiot)

I used to be up on the history, but really, I loved ska because the shows were so fun. Then good ska bands stopped coming to Ottawa, and I eventually just stopped listening to them (although in the next month, the Johnstones, Mustard Plug and Big D are all coming...I haven't been to a ska show since March 06)
