I really really want to work at american eagle.. and I do have some work experience.. I've been working at a fast food restraunt for 8 months now.. and I also have some work experice at science world, and few other places..
But the only thing I'm concern about is that I'm only 16 yrs old.. and I'm not sure what the managers look for when they're hiring.. I mean do they mind if I'm a size 6 and not a size 0 or 2? or are they going to care about my nationality? cause I'm mix!
I know this may sound really stupid.. but I just want to know what do u guys think!
Thanx

Don't worry about it, people that are 14/15 work at AE. I'm sure the managers look for friendliness and all that, and it DOESN'T MATTER if you're a size 6! or if you're mixed! If any manager wouldn't hire you for that, it's not worth it to work there. 8)

^ Yup, it's discrimination, and if the managers there base a hiring decision on such superficial qualities, imagine how much worse it could get once you actually get hired? I certainly hope the managers there care more about an outgoing and positive attitude, confidence, an interest in the company, and excellent customer service skills.

*wowzurrs I'm becoming a forum whore at the moment.. but whatever! ( :

ANYWHOOS! Would anyone mind helping me out about what I should put down for the "CAREER OBJECTIVES" part in the AE application form?

I have like... only four months of work experience, in the food court, so I'm kind of pessimistic about getting even a call back, especially since the AE I'm planning to apply at is like, near my workplace.. XD .... BUT! I am used to working in a face-paced environment, because during the holidays and weekends, it gets oh-so-very busy, and I DO have some experience with working with the cash register... I just don't know how to count cash for closing... :S

yeah.. sorry for like, putting down random things (even though they still relate to this topic. :P)

You could say that you're interested in learning many of the skills that are involved in the retail industry, like improving the customer service skills that you have already gained while working in the service industry, and getting experience in the fields of visual merchandising and store operations, while at the same time, working in a fun innovative environment where you have a genuine interest in the company and want to be able to learn more. Then mention stuff about teamwork skills and how you care about fashion and how great it would be if you could work a job that you could really learn from that revolves about something you really care about [fashion].

But obviously, rework/reword it since what I just wrote is really wordy .. haha.

it takes at least 2 weeks.

but they arent really looking for people right now, they just finished rehiring some of the people they hired for seasonal [winter].

working at kids stores doesnt make you spend your paycheques on them and the discounts :P

you should always apply to more than 1 store.

When you apply for a store like that, don't just give them the application and leave it at that.. like if you don't get a call after two weeks, call them (or go back to the store and ask for the manager) and ask if they're looking at hiring some new people soon and that you've applied and are very interested in working there..
I mean A LOT of people apply there so if you don't make an effort or give them the impression that you WANT to work there they'll hire someone who does. They've got to eliminate somehow :P.

Yeah. Fill in as much as you can. If you did volunteer work, I believe you can fill that in too, if you want.

In both the US and Canada, employers can't hire/fire its employees based on their age, race, sex, sexual orientation or whatever - things about you that you can't change. Only skillset and atittude. It's illegal if they do.

Yeah they can't not hire you because ur a size 6, thats ridiculous, not everyone is going to be a 0 or a 2. I should get a job there, lol, because almost all of my clothes are from ae, haha, and I go there like every day.

Uhh, i just got a voicemail from AE and they want me to come for an interview on friday, but i was planning on going to the states for my cousin's wedding because my family is going.. I don't know what to do.. I don't wanna miss such opportunity because i really wanna work there.. but i dont wanna miss the wedding either. Should i call them and ask if they could possibly rearrange the date or something? Or that is not such a good idea..bad impression?

I need to call them back later today, so any urgent help would be appreciated!

^wow, you're so lucky!
but i think that you should call them back to reschedule, telling them that you have previous committments to do. otherwise, if you dont call back and just not show up, then they will think you're irresponsible and it will ruin your chance at getting a job there afterwards.
im pretty sure they have group interviews though so i dont know how long for the next interview that you would have to wait. but good luck with the phone call (and the interview that you can hopefully change the date of and attending the wedding!)

^^^at which location are they calling you for? just tell them you're not available that day, and reschedule. Holidays are coming up, they NEED people. If they're asking you if you can come in for an interview, then it's totally ok. They're really undersatnding about that stuff.

Treecow, you still want to work at AE? The one at metro has to hire 40 new people for the holidays (ohhhmyyygawwwd.... do I have to help train 40 new people on denim and gobacks???... christ....). Try re-applying, see if you have any luck!

They do interviews all throughout the week, afaik. Inductions are always on Sunday mornings.

^i just want any job! but i dont know if i can reapply yet since i handed it in in september and you usually have to wait 3 months before handing it again. Confused and wow, 40 people seems like a lot! so each person probably wouldnt have too many shifts and im looking to work more to earn more money to save for university. and i just had an interview and am waiting to see if i'm going to get a second interview (the lady said i would though Happy ).

Thank you so much to whoever replied. <3

^^It's the one at Fairview, it's only 20 minutes away from where i live so that makes me wanna get the job even more. And woah, why do they need so many people? Does that mean each person won't have many shifts? :/ And i assume they'll be having big interviews.. nerveracking!

Anyhow, i just called them and the hiring manager told me that it's not a problem but they won't be having any interviews next week. And they haven't arranged the next one yet, but he will put my resume to the side for the next one they will be having.. and he will deffinetly give me a call back. Does anyone know if he will for sure? I'm sorry if i'm being really annoying, i just really want the job because i shop there a lot and getting the discounts would be pretty amazing. Though that's not the only reason, seems like it's actually fun working there. :] Anyways hopefully he will give me a call back, and i'm just gonna use this week to like prepare myself and stuff.. just in case..

^ & ^^ 40 more isn't that many, really. We have a little over 60 right now. The metro location is the busiest one in region.. and with the holiday shopping time coming up, we're going to need as many as possible. Just this past weekend, the store was sooooooo busy... it seemed as though there weren't enough people on the floor to help customers! We especially need people for boxing day... that is the day when EVERYBODY (all ~100) works.

Also, treecow, if you applied early september, then there's nothing wrong with re-applying at the beginning of dec since that would be 3 months, right?

Just a thought Happy

Just had an AE (metrotown) work meeting yesterday.. the store's trying to have 106 employees hired for the holidays... at the moment, we're at about 63.

They asked all of us to ask our friends and whoever wants to work at AE to APPLY NOW! So if you got the l337 5k1llz (that says "Leet Skills", which translates to "elite skills" for those of you who can't read l337-speek) to work at AE, then Apply!

...And even if you don't have skills (I didn't when I applied), then they say to apply anyway... THEY JUST NEED PEOPLE!

That's the American Eagle in Metrotown in BURNABY

^thanks for posting that news on here! 8)
two more weeks and then i can go apply again! and hopefully, this time, i'll get a callback since i made my résumé easier to read.

and when (or if) I hand in my application, is it okay if I have a separate sheet printed out with my schedule for the holiday season or will that be too much work for them to read? because normally, i can work on saturdays and sundays but in december, theres one of the weekends that i cant work because of previous committments. and on the application, will i check "temporary" or "part-time"? sorry for asking so many questions but i am really confused. Razz

oh! one last question: and how long is one shift usually?
