Oh yes happens to me all the time. Ask your doctor for this cream: HydroVal and it works wonders. 8) http://www.taropharma.ca/article.asp?siteID=255&catID=1232&pgID=3865&sub1=3&sub2=1

Or just find a good moisture. My skin is starting to get like from because of the really cold, dry weather.

Exfoliate + Moisturize.
Exfoliating the area removes the dry skin, and moisturizing helps prevent dryness.

I can prove this totally false.
I just recently started using it everynight and my skin has never been better. It is a very good moisturizer, and I have oily/acne prone skin. In the morning I have noticed less oil than usual and my face has been clearer. I can get you links if you'd like.

Same w/ me! However I was told by a make-up artist that vaseline does clog up pores and isn't good for the skin =\ I can see how it does since it does feel oily, so I've cut it down to once a week.

I asked a dermatologist :P Also you should not be drowning your face in it, depending on how dry your skin is 1-2 dime size amounts should be sufficient.

Oh really? Pardon me then Icon_ups But it DOES clog my pores so I just use it on lips but I might start trying it again.

@ miscELAINEous: really? That's happen to me, ironically, on my nose too (on the side, though) and this is what I did:

1) Wash your face.
2) Opt out on your daily cleanser/toner/lotion on the sensitive areas.
3) Take some more water and gently take off the dead skin.
4) Apply a little bit of HydroVal (in your case, any moisterizer)
5) Don't touch it!!

After a few days, it cleared up! Happy Good luck.

Yep! I'll post some links here. Sorry if my post sounded a little rude, I was in a rush!

click! Forum with about 20 pages on it Happy
Also vaseline creates a "barrier" and is absorbed by the skin, but it does not clog the pores and trap anything in them. It also washes out.

Also vaseline is non-comedogenic, and I think that is right on the label, which means that it does not clog pores.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/non-comedogenic

for more uses:

also it was on the today show as one of the best moisturizers but i cant find the episode!

I have SUPER SUPER SUPER dry skin. Also, like I've said before (I think?) I'm allergic to a number of (health) products:
- All soaps (so far) except Dove bar soap (I'm allergic to all liquid soaps)
- All hair products... except baby shampoo, 1 or 2 different conditioners, and hair wax
- Nearly all face-related products that I've tried
- Most moisturizing products

I'm also allergic to all household cleaners (this is convenient Razz ).

What happens when I use it, my skin gets really dry, peels, cracks, and I bleed. It's not a pretty sight (slightly worse than your usual case of excema).

However, I've found that for my face, the Body Shop's "Aloe Caring Body Balm" works (and I don't react). I also use a prescription ointment when I do break out called Halobetasol Propionate. It absolutely works wonders - though my case might be one of the more extreme cases, I wouldn't know for sure.

Vaseline is hypoallergenic and dermatoligist recommended. I even tried it a few days overnight and kind of thought it would clog my pores, but it totally doesnt.

Have you been sick? Or blowing your nose a lot? I was sick the last while and I constantly blew my nose (like once every minute) and that made my nose really dry and flaky even after I was better. My nose is just starting to not be that dry anymore.

I know this post was a while ago, but I found the most amazing moisturizer. Its called Dermologica Barrier Repair. It absorbs right in and makes your skin feel so silky. It doesnt leave a residue and it isnt greasy or oily. I put it on my dry skin and it absorbed right away. I love it!!

I get dryness around my nose in colder months and after I've been sick. I have a really easy solution that always works for me. I exfoliate the dry area with a scrub (like St. Ives Apricot scrub) I personally use Got 2 b in your face papya scrub....after I exfoliate the area I dab on Nivea moisturizer and my flakes and dryness disappear.

I also Love Vaseline, but only for my lips and dry areas like my elbows and knees. It works well for those areas. But everyone is different, my friend loves using Vaseline as an allover moisturizer.......everyone's skin will react differently.

I love St. Ives apricot scrub, it works wonders on my normally flakey skin. I'm not very good to it. I usually get the redness under my nose when I'm sick. I have it every once in a while, and I think i still have some of it now. But thanks everyone for the advice !
