Anyone else joining the wonderful class of 2009? Who's pumped? Am I the only one?

Yay, seniors! It's about time.

I'm secretly so excited to get my timetable in the mail in August. What are you all planning to take, and where/what do you plan on going/doing after high school?

Questions, questions *sigh*

Grade 12 here I come!
I am very excited for this year. It's going to be the year of getting down to business and doing amazing. I'll be working too, at one job at least, but I'm hoping to get a job lifeguarding as well.

For classes I have:

first semester:

~gym (which is a joke, full of stoners, and I'm dropping it because it's open level anyway)
~bio
~exercise science
~advanced functions

second semester:

~chemistry
~food and nutrition science
~calculus
~english

I plan on applying to Guelph for Bio-Med, McMaster for Health Sciences, and Queen's Med program (I haven't really researched it yet). But I'm really considering Guelph the most, because I don't really like Hamilton all that much. I may go to Mac's med school though after my undergrad.

I've even started looking at scholarships Neutral. Although most aren't updated from last year yet.

Well I don't know what semester my courses in (except Math 30 Pure first semester and Math 31 second semester). I decided not to take AP Math 30, even though I got 97 in it... I'm going to be so busy so I don't know if I can handle it. I just want to keep high, high grades and get in where I want.

Courses I am taking:
English 30 AP (might opt out as well, haha)
Chemistry 30
Math 30 Pure
Math 31
Social Studies 30
French 30
2 Spares (one each semester)

I've already completed Biology 30 with 92%.

I'm applying early, for a major entrance award to Queen's for Commerce (if I don't get in I'll die die die). I know somebody already going with the same scholarship so I have a 'mentor' of sorts. I'm hoping to apply for other scholarships too, like Millenium and LORAN, and other big ones. I'm very involved in my school and community and my service hours are going into the thousands now. I won't be working because I'll probably be too busy this upcoming year... eek!

st3ph: What scholarships were you looking at?

^ I've looked at the
Millenium -- $20 000
Loran -- $8 000
TD (MAJOR !! MUST GET! LOL) -- $60 000
a President's Scholarship @ Guelph -- $20 000
Terry Fox Humanitarian Award -- $6 000

and there's others but those were the ones I have saved.

major money!

^LORAN is actually $75,000, not $8000. Apply for that as well! It's an amazing scholarship.

I'm going to apply for TD as well. I have a friend who actually won it this year... but she's amazing, so of course she did. But she also won Queen's Chancellor's ($36000) and had to turn it down, Millenium National, was a LORAN finalist.

Plus I have similar extracurriculars to her (we're on all the same committees and such). Her average was WAY higher though (think like over 95 in IB higher).

So I have a 'mentor' of sorts, as I like to call it.

But yeah... I had something awesome happen to me today... I was given a VIP role within a magazine distributed across BC and Alberta (Youthink) so I'd like to put that on the application as well.

BUT GOOD LUCK ST3PH I'M SURE YOU'LL WIN ALL OF THEM!!!

Plus, what's cool about TD is that you'll have a guaranteed summer job for all of university :P

^ oh geeze yeah it is 75 000...i knew there was one ridiculous amount, it's just cause in the overview it says 8 yet the desription says 75 and i didn't even bother to open it. but yes 75 000 dollars is an amazing amount, and i was telling my friend last night about it and he's like wow, you're all set to go if you win that one.

and why thank you! i am trying my best this year and really getting involved, good luck to you as well!

^Awesome! And my friend also told me it's better to have quality over quantity of activities. Being in a whole bunch of different clubs but not doing much is so different from being involved in leadership and a multitude of activities that show your strengths and well-roundedness.

Yep I am going into grade 12! SENIOR! But I am also doing an extra semester in grade 13 because I need a couple extra courses, so then I^ll have half a year to make money. Ugh I would die for some of those scholarships but I don`t think I could ever get those huge ones but I need it! School is going to be so expensive and I think I want to go to medical school so....even more money. My parents don`t earn very much money so I am already worried, so it sucks. My average is usually between 92 and 94 If I could bump that up to a 95 I could get some really good entrance scholarships!

I'm heading to my final year with the rest of you. I have no idea what any of my classes are except Sem 1 will have Math 30 and Sem 2 will have Math 31. I'm kinda nervous, there's a lot of pressure riding on me this year. But I won't be too worried since I'm only aiming to go to U of C since U of A doesn't offer Dentistry for students straight out of high school.

^^ I wouldn't say I study a lot.

I'm too busy to put too much effort into my work, I suppose I'm lucky that I understand things pretty well so it takes less time for me to learn things. But I make sure I keep up with most important homework, understand the concepts which is the key, i don't memorize a lot (that tends to get confusing), and i study for a few hours for tests. exams i try to spread over a few days, but when you have 4 in a row it's hard to do. i think if i study harder and do ALL homework i could excel this year, and get better scholarships. i think this year my average was 88 first semester, and 91.25 second semester. physics and bio kinda killed me, but i kinda slacked in them. (I have really high standards though...these are good marks!)

^Same here.

I have to admit I rarely study. School is something that usually comes naturally to me... I find it easy.

My grades were almost all over 90, with the exception of Legal Studies (an elective I didn't really care for and never went to), and English (which all of you may know by now, my final exam missing scare thingy... eek, so my mark fell 4% that day).

I know for a fact I will have to study in grade 12 though. I will also have to be busy... I find that the more pressure I am under, the better I tend to do.

I study quite a bit, I find that I really good at memorizing and then once I ve memorzied something I go back and make sure I understand it. BUt I do study a lot for test and exams, and I like exams a lot because they always brng up my mark because I am good at tests unlike projects or writing pieces that I have to put a lot more effort into.

WOOHOO seniors!

I didn't get my schedule yet. However I got my letter from my school telling me welcome back blahblahblah they're going to be giving us our locks this year how lame is that? Anyway the way it works at my school is that we have to go to school like a week before the first day to get our schedules, locks, agendas and bus pass pictures and pay our registration fees and whatnot. It's really lame because it takes away the excitement of the first when you see everyone ahead of time Sad

After high school I WANT to go to UBC but it's probably not happening Sad

i don't think i'll ever readjust either. i still miss summer terribly.

anywaysssss grade 12, im excited it's my final year!
sooo my courses..
semester 1:
accounting
advanced functions
spare
english

semester 2:
data management
spare
business management
calculus and vectors

I'm hoping that I can drop business management and take economics instead. But it all depends on the period 3 calculus class cause right now it's full and i'm 2nd on the waiting list. So hopefully it works out. If not, then I'll prob take eco in virtual school or night school. and if it does work out then I can take international business in virtual school. so wish me luck!

^international business is such an easy course....it's a waste of time though, you don't learn anything useful. if you just want something to get good marks for scholarships, take it!

if you're going into business (seems like it) then take economics.. it's better to have that foundation in high school and at least understand the basic concepts at a slower pace -- my friends who never took it are kinda lost now in uni.

^^ you're so lucky you get two spares! guidance won't let us incase we "fail" a course and can't graduate....i have never got below an 84 in class...doubt i will fail. but i guess it's okay cause then universities see my top six marks so incase i do poorly in one class.

^^haha yeah that's why i wanna take international business..especially in virtual school cause a friend of mine did it over the summer and he got like 99. i just want it to boost my average.

but either way i'm taking economics for sure because if i can't take it in day school then i can do it in virtual school or night school. i took it last year and i did it for three weeks at the beginning of this semester (had to drop it for now cause they dropped my data class this semester and i had to switch my ENTIRE timetable..was so pissed) and so far everything was pretty much review so it doesn't seem too hard. and plus i've had the teacher 5 times since high school and he's one of those really laid back teachers and if i ask him to boost my mark by a few percent, he will LOL. gotta love teachers like that.

^lol i kinda think my spare this semester is useless though. i mean, in my 3 classes this semester, i don't get that much homework to begin with so usually i don't have much to do during spare. just the occasional accounting or functions homework but it's not nothing i can't do on my own time without a spare. the only good thing is i either get an extra loooong lunch or i get to leave school early.
