I need help finding a grad dress, I believe it's in early June this year. It's only grade 9 grad, though but I still want a nice dress. Something not too formal but not too casual either. I'm short, I'm only 5'1" and I'm thinking of getting a dress that goes to somewhere around my knees, or maybe shorter. I was thinking of a creamy/off white colour, but I'm not too sure anymore. Black would work fine, but I kind of want something lighter and maybe a cute print, since it's spring! I've heard that the theme is going to be Hollywood. There's even going to be a red carpet. I'm going to look at dresses tomorrow and/or Sunday, and probably next weekend as well if I don't find anything. (And I guess the following weekends too.) So, any suggestions/pictures? All are welcome and appreciated, thanks! =)

Well, for places, Bryan's is really good for cute dresses. They also have some fancier ones but I really like their cocktail dresses, tons of my friends got them for formals and prom and they were all sooo pretty!

As for suggestions on an actual dress:

^ I really love that one

I would check out Zara and H&M. I was at Zara the other day and they had a lot of short summer/spring dresses, and I've had friends who have gotten grad dresses there before.

Dont goto laura if you have it there, everyone i know is going there expect half the dresses are prom dresses, so its not even worth the moeny there

You could try H&M, Zara, already mentioned. But theres also Guess, Bebe, Le cheteau, costa blanca if you want moderately priced summeryish dresses

I went to Jacob the other day and they had so many beautiful dresses! I bought one for my graduation ceremony. Definatly lots appropraite for a grade 9 grad. I would also check out Zara and the Bay - they have some cute dresses there too.

Thanks guys! I didn't get to go last weekend because I was sick, and I'm not sure if I'll have time to this weekend either. I might go with my sister. Anyways I'll definitely check those places out and thanks for the pictures emcee! Those are all really cute. Anyway my friend helped me find this dress from Bebe: http://tinyurl.com/3zde3t
Any thoughts on it? I really love it! I am still yet to see it in person though and try it on.

I also like these two dresses from BCBG but the prices are a bit much.

Ooh, the first dress is cute; it's not too fancy but it should be okay since it's just a grade 9 grad. And you can even wear the dress after your grad as a spring/summer dress. (:

^^^They're all really pretty, but the first one i think would be best since it's not as plain (cause of the satin and embroidery stuff) and like the others said, would make a great summer dress to wear after grad. and plus, it's probably cheaper than the bcbg ones.

Thanks! I tried it on last weekend, and it's a bit big. Also I'm not too sure if it's dressy enough, I'm worried it's a little too informal. Many girls already have their grad dresses, and most of them are pretty dressy. I love that white Bebe one, but it's made of cotton, though it does have satin and embroidery on it. It's so difficult to find a really nice dress. =/

^ If it's not too big, you might be able to get it taken in. I've never actually gotten that done on any of my dresses, but it's a possibility!

I definitely agree that finding dresses (especially grad dresses!) is really hard. In grade 12, I got my dress for grad pictures like the weekend before, and my prom dress a day before, and my grad dress like a week before! It was soooo hard. If you can go to the States I would definitely suggest it though, because there's a lot more selection and there's less chance for other girls to have the same dress as you.

I had my grade 8 dress taken in and it fit perfectly after, you just have to be specific about what you want. I really like the white dress I think it's so fresh at sweet, a nice change from all the shiny long dresses a lot of other people will probably be wearing.

A tiered dress might look really great, or something with a really great print!
Good Luck! And post a pic of the dress you get if you can!

That's a good idea, I may need to get my dress taken in a bit. Thanks so much for all your help! I got my dress yesterday, from BCBG and it was on sale with $100 off. The dress is actually similar to the Bebe one, but I suppose more fancier? It's a woven silk material and it's white, and there's embroidery detail on the bottom. And it goes to just above my knees. I'll try to post a picture up tomorrow. I still need to look for shoes. I know that I am definitely going for heels since I'm short, especially compared to everyone else and I know others will be wearing heels. But the problem is, colour! I'm probably not going to go with white, since it will most likely be two different whites. So I was thinking metallics. Either gold or silver? I think maybe silver would look better with my dress. But I'm not completely sure. Also it's hard to find nice metallic shoes that don't look.. tacky? Or.. cheap. If you know what I mean. I also have to find a clutch.

Anyone care to help or give suggestions?

Also, what do you think of these shoes?

Aldo, $70
http://tinyurl.com/48v4g9

Aldo, $80
http://tinyurl.com/3l5er2

Town Shoes, $125

I think the Aldo ones are cute, but both of them are creamy/off white, and so I'm not sure would go with my dress. I really like the ones from Town Shoes, but they're $125 and I don't really want to spend too much on shoes since my dress was a lot. But I really like the T-strap style. Does anyone know where I could find cute T-strap heels? Or any suggestions for shoes?

^ Oh yay! Post up pictures soon!

I really like the Aldo heels, although I definitely see your point that the colour might not match. It really depends on what kind of white your dress is and the style...I mean, you could also punch up the look with bright colours, like pink or yellow! If that's not too bold of a look for you of course. Metallics are definitely a go-to choice though, since they go with pretty much everything.

I would say check out all the usual places: Aldo, Le Chateau, Sterling, Joneve...etc. Gravity Pope has some awesome shoes as well but they are definitely on the pricier side. I'll try to look around online to see and get back to you.

From Sterling

These are from Sterling too, and I know they're not metallic...but I think they're cute Happy

Another option is Winners, although it's kinda hit or miss there...sometimes you can find reaaallly nice shoes there!

^OMG i looooooooove those purple shoes!!!! Icon_yahoo

haha sorry. Yeah definitely post some pictures of your dress when you have time! Congratulations on finding one! Happy

I like that pair of silver shoes taht you posted from town shoes... i think silver would go better than gold... but i also like emcee's idea of colour.

ie. with a black dress, you'd pop it with a red shoe..
but i'm not sure about a white dress.

let me think about this some more. Happy

Thanks! Here's my dress!

Yeah I'd like to try a bright colour, but I'm not sure I could pull it off or if it would look good with the dress. Those purple ones are really cute! But I'm thinking silver, probably. By the way, the shoes in those pictures are not the ones I will be wearing, I am still searching for shoes! I just put them on because I wanted to try my dress on with some heels. Ah I would love to go look at Gravity Pope but yes, it is pricier, and so more than likely more than what I'm willing to spend on shoes. But I'll look around over the weekend and hopefully find some cute ones! Any other comments/suggestions?

^ Omigosh, YOUR DRESS IS SO CUTE AND AMAZING I LOVE IT! P.S., I think those shoes look really nice with the dress and I think that's a good colour...the white of the dress seems a little warmer than I thought it would look so I think you should go with maybe a colour similar to the shoes you have on in those pictures (it looks good!) Silver would look good too but I think that the colour of your shoes now looks really good already Happy

oh my gosh! your dress is TO DIE FOR!!!!

I SO wish I could have a grade 9 grad . =(
but i think flats could also go really nice! like, splurge on a nice pair. because unless you wear heels a lot, you won't get much of a pair for one special date.

Aw thanks everyone! Well those shoes are extremely uncomfortable, but actually I do agree they look good with the dress. I'll try to find some in that colour. Actually I originally wanted peeptoe pumps, so I'll see if I can find some! And Puddingcup., I was actually considering wearing flats. I pretty much never wear heels unless I have to. And I'd love to go for a really cute pair of flats.. It's just the fact that I'm shorter than the majority of the girls, and well not to mention the guys. Plus I think mostly all of the girls will be wearing heels. Also my friend argued the fact that flats just aren't as dressy as heels. But I am still going to consider flats as a possibilty! I'll bring it up with my friend and see what she thinks, since we're like the same height. (And Puddingcup., why don't you have a grade 9 grad?)

^that's good. I hope you find a real nice pair of shoes, no matter what! =)

in my school district, grade 9 is just a full high school, no junior or senior high. so it's grade 8-12. no middle school either.
