^I should add, if you have 2 courses you do really bad in you should take 6 provincials.
OH! And if you're planning on studying Arts at UBC/SFU, take a language through grade 12. To graduate from Arts, you're required to learn a language. However, if you took one through gr12 (and did the provincial) you're exempt. You'll save yourself a couple of years worth of language classes (and big bucks).
Sorry to be getting off topic! |

meg-san:
Really? At SFU you don't need a language for Arts, at least that's what I think...it's not a degree requirement for me. Then again I'm not even sure if my degree is an arts degree...Comm is an arts program but it's in the faculty of applied science.
But I'm pretty sure you actually don't need a language for SFU Arts. _________________

| ^You don't need french to get in to UBC, but to graduate from UBC in the faculty of arts you need A language (anything from French to Arabic to Japanese). |

| Kimmy: My essay was about a French exchange trip I went on and its effects on me. The Ivies I applied to were Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, and Dartmouth. I'm Asian and live in an urban area. As for interviews, I had them for Princeton, Brown, and Dartmouth. But keep in mind that interviews don't make or break your interview, they are meant to tell you great things about the school so you decide to go there if you get accepted. |

lemon_diva: Thanks. I have another question. What activities/clubs were you involved in during your years in high school? I would like to know what school-related activities you were involved in, as well as community service. _________________ I donated all my blings to wordtoyourmother. |

What role does race play?
From what I've heard, it might be easier to get in if you're black (which I am), and now a lot of Ivies and even Stanford are very generous with financial aid. UPenn is like my dream school... the likelihood of me getting in would be slim, but I'm curious.
My grades are average, grade 9 was excellent (all 90s), grade 10 and first semester grade 11 was mehh (80s), 93 second semester, but I have 93 in one grade 12 course and 98 in AP math, 92 in AP Chem... ahaha. I think I could do well on SATs and I have too many leadership/ECs to count. Provincial field hockey, mayor's youth council... the list goes on.
Though my chances are pretty much slim to none... I'd like to know, considering the info on UPenn's site is kind of vague. _________________

^ I think because of affirmative action. In Canada at UBC and SFU if you're First Nations I think there are certain concessions that are made...? I remember filling out the forms and there being a special section if you were of First Nations ancestry. I think the general gist of affirmative action is that minority/disadvantaged groups are given concessions to increase their chances of attending a university, or getting a certain job. _________________
