I know as a good admin I shouldn't even have to ask this BUT

Do you guys think I should censor swear words?

On the old site, people found ways to get around the swear-blocker so should I start that up again or just not?

Please vote and/or state your reasons. Thanks! Very Happy

IMO, I don't think swear words should be censored. It's not necessary. I'd prefer if they weren't - especially since the word is censored when used in a different context and then posts are hard to understand. Such as "cocktail dress" and "prickly," for example. Like you said, people got around the censors on the other board, so if you were to censor words here, people would just use the words anyway.

No, we're all mature here and I don't think anyone would be offended if a swear word was used once in a while. However, I think you should censor racial slurs (like n*****) because those are just used to offend people.

Also, while I do occasionally swear I can't stand it when every other word coming out of someones mouth is the eff word, so maybe if people "abuse" the swearing priviledge they should be censored or something.

No because I hate when they block out words when i'm not swearing with them. It's annoying. And anyway, most people are old enough to have heard them before anyway. Just the REALLY bad ones. Like the n word. Basically what the others said.

No, I don't think it's necessary. Everyone on here is mature enough and even if you censor it, we're still going to swear most likely. And it makes things harder to read sometimes like ****tail dress lol.

I don't think its necessary. BUT if you have parents like mine, I have to be careful.
They wouldn't like the fact that I'm on a forum where people swear.
BUT HEY!

I don't care.
I say don't bother. Very Happy

I too don't really think it's necessary just because people always just found a space in between the word or put an astreic in so they could swear anyways.

Also, I agree with the others that say its annoying when a word gets censored because it is part of another word, and you have no idea what they are trying to say

I agree with your choice, don't set it up .. there is no point, if people want their swear words to be read, they'll find a way around it. Plus, the majority of the people on this forum are now more on the mature side .. we can handle a bit of potty mouth =P.

I mean over at the old F18, none of the admins/mods really cared about swearing anyway, or enforced anything .. people were just mature enough to only use them when ranting about something but not directed at other members.

I love to swear, and others stated good reasons. I'm glad you're not setting it up, heh. >=P

it wouldn't make a difference i think the only thing that should be censored like every one else said the "N" word.

I don't think swear words need to be blocked out. Like other people said, some people will find ways around them. And also it's not like people are gonna be swearing every other word right? (except in a few posts in the rant section maybe) But yeah,I don't think censoring them is needed.

No, I don't think it's necessary. Mostly everyone is mature enough so it shoudn't be a big problem.

Yay everyone's here??!!

So, back on-topic, no I don't think "regular" swear words should be censored, but the N-word, the C-word and other words solely used to offend someone should be.

No, I don't think we should have the swear blocker. We're all a pretty nice group here, so we won't swear that much.

But, if it goes too far, then maybe you should consider it.

I agree with everyone else, but I do think that swearing at/name calling (not like stupid or something) other members really is unacceptable and if any of that happens perhaps blocking out certain words would be a good idea.

Do you choose what words are sensored? If you can, I think you should just censor the offensive words, like what Anna was saying.

Yeah, you can enter in what word you want to be censored, and choose what goes in the post instead of the word...

hope you don't mind me answering jousy!
