aww, congratulations! you are a really great writer!
Right now, I don't have a job but I am looking for one. Personally, if i get a job, I think that it would not affect my life in too much of a bad way. In fact, I think that it would be better for me as a person. I will be able to work 20-hours per week (like you as well) but the majority of that time is on Saturday, where I usually just sit at home doing nothing anyways. And the rest of the time is around four hours after school on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday so it really would not affect my homework hours since I tend to finish it at a late hour anyways. Also, for the money I earn, I will put most of it into my bank account since I am also needing to save for university (especially since I'm planning on going to a university far away from home.) Plus with the extra money, I'll probably use it to sometimes go buy birthday presents for my friends so I will be able to attend their birthday parties (because I feel reeeeally bad asking my parents.) And I'll use some of it to spend for myself, of course, but I always feel guilty spending a lot of money so I most likely won't use it much anyways.
hehe and you inspire me. 8) sometimes I don't agree with what the newspaper says so maybe one day, I will send in a letter to the newspaper as well to voice my opinion. _________________ used to be 'sw33tlilhugz' on the old f18. (; |

Congrats on getting published!
I have a part time job, and it has definitely helped me with my studies.
I work in an accounting firm, and the knowledge and skills I learn there help me in class (currently have a 99% mark.) It's also made me more organized and efficient, because when I have assignments or tests coming up, I set up deadlines for myself to avoid procrastination. At work, if something isn't sent by a certain day, the client can get into trouble with the government. _________________

congrats on getting published, your article was great
i have a part time job, i work on weekends, monday and friday nights i find that getting a job has made me get more organized in school and just with everything in general, although i wasnt very disorganized before. Im still getting the hang of working and school but since september ive come a long way. It doesnt hurt to have extra money in my pocket, i save some and spend some, having an income has definetly made me more responsible financially. _________________

Good job!
I agree with you, part time jobs do help us in ways. They do teach us good qualities, and skills and do let us know what responsibilty really is. I guess it's different for everyone, if you enter with a good work ethic you could probably keep it. Althoughfor some people working may offset their school work because they aren't used to all the extra work. and i agree, schorlarships don't cover everything, neither do parents so that's when you have to get a job. |

I completely agree with your reply.
I've had a part time job for all of my grade 12 year and it did not effect my grades. Like you said, if I wasn't at work, I would have probably been just watching TV or sleeping. And I took the job because I too have to pay for university. _________________

Congrats!! Thats awesome that they published it. Well written too
Yep, I totally agree with you. I have a part time job this year and my marks are actually better then last year. Part time jobs can be SO useful -- they can teach you many things. Personally I think that I am more responsible since beginning my job and also more outgoing and confident. It has helped my WAY more then hindered me!!
Another thing is that they can help you prioritize your time more. Like, before I would leave me homework till really late at night.. now I will do my homework right when I get home because I know I have to work.
The best thing is just to not take on more then you can handle - for some people it is working only once a week, or working 3 or 4 days a week. If you feel yourself getting really swamped and disorganized it might be time to quit a day. |

That's very good.. I see what the other girl is saying but I agree moreso with you.
We're like twins..what can I say. The grades, the job, the time..everything. I completely agree with you.
I like my job. It gives me a break from school, and I too need money for university. I still find time to go out. Having a job has helped me manage my time more wisely. Universities like to see well-rounded individuals, so I think that they would look more favourably upon people who do more things, even if grades are lower.
Congrats!!! _________________

I was actually JUST going to say that! Wow, we really are twins!
But yeah, I was going to say that some of my friends are literally insane about their grades and don't have part-time jobs or anything like that. It makes me so mad when they complain about not having enough time to do their projects, when they don't have half as much stuff to do as I and a lot of other students do. What's more, they then have the audacity to laugh at and belittle me when I get a lower grade than them. Oh yeah? Well at least I have a life.
Woo, sorry, just had to get that off my chest. But anyway, when universities look at students, they're not only going to pick the ones with the 95% average. Yes, that's impressive, but what else do you do? Getting good grades (not genius ones but still quite excellent), working a part-time job, volunteering, joining student groups, playing a sport and/or instrument.... now that's impressive.
I like how F18 has all the good, well-rounded kids. <3 |

^thats not true. only some universities care about your extracurriculars.
take mcgill for example, according to my friends your extracurriculars are not even taken into account.
however, at universities like queens you write PSEs and if you happen to write a good one and they see you are a well rounded individual, they might accept you to the program of your choice even if you are a bit lower than their requirements. _________________ formerly known as rubbersoul |

Thats so cool! I would love to be published in the paper, haha, anyways..
I have a part time job and I dont think it interferes with school. I mean it only interferes if you let it. As long as you use your time wisely, then you should have no problem with studying or catching up on school work. I think that it also keeps teens pre-occupied. All of the teens that I know that dont have jobs are usually into some kind of trouble. I think a part time job is good because it gives you work experience, helps you meet new people, and you get money and learn how to manage it. _________________
