pfaff sewing machines are good. i think. cause the one i have at home is pfaff and same with the ones at school. i think you can get sewing machines at sears. since you are probably just doing basic sewing, i don't think you need anything too expensive, maybe around 150-200? im not even sure! ahha

for sewing you need a LOT of stuff.
umm some basics include fabric shears, pins, fabric markers, measuring tape, sewing gauge. and everything else depends on what you're making.

if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
i hope that my 2 years in textiles has helped me gain some knowledge about sewing :P

You can look at this thread for more information for the first two questions: http://fashion18.forumwise.com/fashion18-thread2143.html

And for the second one, you probably can just go to a fabric store and they'll already have the stuff you need in a small plastic pencil-case-like bag. I got mine from Fabricland and it has shears, fabric marker, pins, hand needles, stitch ripper, this thing to help get thread through a hand needle easier (but I don't use it), this thing (I don't know what it's called) that has a handle and then like a spiky circle, a measuring tape, a thimble, and some other stuff that I forgot/lost.

Finding a good sewing machine will be different for each person. Take your time, you want it to last. Finding one that fits you and your needs is kind of like finding a good boyfriend, I think. haha.
