Hello.
I'm not sure if any of you have attended or heard about the Vancouver Community College Fashion Design Boot Camp.
It's basically going to the college for one week (either in Spring Break or during summer) to learn about techniques of drawing and designing our own mini fashion collections.
However, there is a fee to pay in order to attend and it's quite pricey. During the spring break one, it's $235 for 20 hours of learning and $295 during the summer for 20 hours as well.
I really want to go (for the spring break one) but I'm not sure if it'll be worth it. So if anyone has ever gone there in the previous years, what do you think of it? Did you learn a lot of new stuff and did it help you to become a better designer? Do you think I should go as well?
And if you never went before but want more information, here's the website:

Do you know why it costs more in the summer? Additional programs? _________________

I'm not sure...but I'm pretty sure it's still all the same material. Maybe it's because many people would prefer to go during the summer since they have more time than in the spring break? _________________ used to be 'sw33tlilhugz' on the old f18. (; |

I WENT LAST SUMMMER !
i basically freaked when i saw this thread title
it wasnt as great as i thought it would be, really slack, and we just kinda all did our own things. one week is def not enough time to learn what you need to. but it is a great experience, and the instructor that i had was great, she made things very interesting and stuff but thats basically it.
we drew a lot, and we got to drape like a dress on manniquins
we also had one day where we got to learn how to use photoshop
from my experience, i have to say that i wasn't worth the 200 dollars for this course, there are def other courses that are out there, for the same price where you get to do more stuff
feel free to ask me if you have any questions! because i suck at explaining |

^YES! I'm so glad that you went!
I have some questions:
1. Do you get a certificate for completion of the course at the end?
2. Do you think that this program will be an advantage for getting into fashion design in university?
3. Have you gone to any other fashion design camps (or personally heard good things about) that are more effective than this one for around the same price?
4. Did you get the Mavi Jeans free gift bag? (hehe, I'm just asking this question out of curiosity) What types of things were in there?
Thanks! (: _________________ used to be 'sw33tlilhugz' on the old f18. (; |

1. yes i did get a certificate at the end
2. i don't think this course is informative enough to be able to help you out too much along the way, sure you'll get some tips from the instructor and learn how to draw and stuff, but nothing extremely special. for me, it felt like the course was just like a little teen thing for girls, its not like a strict program with like all the information that you will need to get into the fashion world
3. i have not gone to any other fashion programs, but i know that there is another one, because last year i had to decide between this one and that one. the other one was at kwantlen and it was advertised as a more strict program and it really seemed to cover a lot more stuff than the VCC bootcamp, i wanted to go to that one, but it was all the way in richmond. maybe they'll have it again this year? i think they were around the same prices, the kwantlen one might be a bit pricier but not more than 50$
4. haha yes i did get the mavi giftbag. we got a fashion bootcamp tshirt, a mavi book, mavi neckkeythingy, some stickers from "orb"(i think thats a clothing brand), a fashion bootcamp pencilcase and inside it were like special drawing pencils and stuff, a huge sketchbook and thats all i can really remember
everyday, there was a draw for free clothing, i would tell you what there was to choose from but i never won
haha
and at the end of the program, tehres a draw for like 100$ at the mavi store (i think it was 100, or like a free pair of jeans but def a really cool prize)between the two classes, i, sadly didnt win haha |

thanks for replying so quickly!
I heard about the Kwantlen one too! I think my friend goes (went?) there but I'm not really sure...I'll have to ask her. I don't know if that one's in the summer though; I think I remember reading the website saying it's every Saturday for two or three months. But it sucks that it has to be in Richmond...it's so far away! And I'm pretty sure that the Kwantlen one is over $300.
and too bad that you didn't win. I have terrible luck with draws or contests as well.
hmm...I don't think that I'm gonna go sign up for the VCC one then. _________________ used to be 'sw33tlilhugz' on the old f18. (; |
