Are You Ready to Move Into the Big Brother House?

The bigwigs behind Big Brother, including executive producer Allison Grodner, are holding open casting calls for the show's next season — which will be starting up in mid-February, a lot sooner than its typical summertime slot, thanks to the writers' strike. There are still a few days of open calls left, so if you've always wanted to bare your soul (not to mention the rest of you) on national television and live 24-hour Internet feeds, check out CBS.com. Grodner told us what will get you noticed, why nothing's too outrageous and how some former faves nearly didn't make it on to the show.
TVGuide.com: This is awfully soon for you guys to be doing casting calls again....
Allison Grodner: It's crazy, isn't it? It seems like we just ended [Season 8]! It's like, "Oh, wait a minute, it's not summer?" [Laughs]
TVGuide.com: How much time do you usually have between casting and the new season?
Grodner: For a summer season, we usually start up at the end of February. It's quite a big casting process, and it's also preparing the house, redoing the equipment [for the challenges]... there's no doubt that this is more of an accelerated process at this point.
TVGuide.com: What do you look for in a Big Brother candidate?
Grodner: We are always looking for interesting personalities. We're looking for a diverse group of people from different backgrounds, with different personalities and different points of view. It's always about the mix — you mix it up, you close the door and throw away the key, and see what happens. [Laughs] Every year it's a surprise. We're looking for people who can be themselves, who are un-self-conscious and can be honest. And that's pretty much it. Last summer was a really good example of that; there was such a range of people. It's people you would never find together in the real world. [Laughs]
TVGuide.com: Are there certain "types" that you always want to include — like a controversial loud-mouth, a blonde bombshell, etc.?
Grodner: [Laughs] We really don't. It's really about people whose personalities interest us and people we feel are very real. The last thing we want are people who will come to a casting session and give us what they think we want — we've now been doing this long enough that we can spot that miles away. Once you close that door, people become themselves, and we need to be able to see what you really are, because people are going to be watching you 24/7. We are looking for diversity of age and a diversity of looks — you know, you've got your pretty people, your very real-looking people. It's a bit of a potion — with Big Brother we throw them in, we stir it up a little, we add some spice, and then you simmer all summer long.
TVGuide.com: So what's involved in the open casting call?
Grodner: People walk in, they give us their best two minutes or less on tape. If you're nowhere near, you can download an application and submit a tape [by mail]. Then we go through those tapes. Really it's the first 30 seconds, so make sure you get across your unique point of view then.
TVGuide.com: Have you encountered any particularly wacky people auditions?
Grodner: Oh, yeah, always. [Laughs] We've seen people who drop all their clothes. And we've seen some really creative things. When people go to that extra effort, we know they're not going to be dull to watch.
TVGuide.com: Is there anything that's actually too outrageous?
Grodner: For Big Brother? I don't know. [Laughs] Obviously there are the rules of the house. If anyone appears to be dangerous, we wouldn't want them.
TVGuide.com: What gets a person really noticed in a casting call?
Grodner: As long as it's not the same old thing. We're going to notice right off the bat if you're putting on an act for us: "I'm going to go in there and fight," the whole stereotypical reality part of it all. We've wised up over the years — we know when people are just putting on an act to get to the next level. Whatever you put on tape should be representative of what your friends and family see in you.
TVGuide.com: What can you tell us about the interview process for some past fan favorites?
Grodner: With Dr. Will [Kirby, who won Season 2], if I remember correctly, his tape was actually not that impressive. We thought, "This is a cute guy; he's a doctor." We liked the idea that this was someone from a white-collar background mixed in with everyone else. He came to our semifinals. Once we had an interview with him, we understood just how brilliant and charismatic he is. We were wowed by him. We knew he had potential, but we didn't know how much. And Dick [Donato, who won last season] diligently showed up at open calls for the past three years. Each year he made it further and further. Last year we had our [people-from-the-past] twist, and his daughter, Daniele, showed up to the open call as well, and they're not talking to each other... it just fell into our laps.
Anyways, so we all know it's been confirmed. Who's as excited as moi?
ANNND COMMERCIAL!!

^It's starting in winter cause of the writer's strike (though it's apparently over now). And i know what the twist is!
-->CBS has revealed the identities of the 16 all-single houseguests who will be competing in Big Brother 9 and announced the season will feature a creative twist that will force the show's cast to pair up with their show-selected "soul mate."
Each Big Brother 9 houseguest filled out a "love-match profile" as part of the application process. During Big Brother 9's premiere broadcast on Tuesday, February 12 at 9PM ET/PT, the group will be told they are being matched up with their "soul mate" -- a "stranger who may prove to be their true love or their worst nightmare," according to CBS.
"Sixteen singles, living in a house, suddenly discover that their perfect love match is sitting right next to them," executive producer Allison Grodner told Big Brother host and The Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen during Tuesday morning's The Early Show broadcast.
"Your life in the house depends on this other person. You're going to sleep in the same bed together, you're going to compete together, you're going to hold the Head of Household together, get nominated [for eviction] together -- and ultimately -- get evicted together."
ANNNNNND...
they're all moved in!

kay so spoilers and opinions :
1. Sheila can burn in hell. what an annoying bitch, like omg, don't talk about how ugly he is and how much you hate him when he is standing right there. so effing rude, and like crying about being with him? it's not like you signed up for eharmony, it's big brother so play the game!
2. Jacob and Sharon have been evicted.
3. The couple has revealed they are dating outside the show.
4. The new HOH’s are Alex/Amanda.
5. The house seems to be split down the middle with two distinct groups of Parker/Jen/Alex/Amanda/Matt/Natalie vs. Shiela/Adam/Ryan/Joshuah/Neil/James/Chelsia/Allison.
Yes, somehow Ryan and Jen got themselves on different alliances…
^ yes yes yes to sharon being back in. Boo boo boo to parker and jen and ryan being put up. i dont like allison, so id rather her and ryan go home. _________________
^I'm still kinda iffy on Ryan/Allison & Jen/Parker. I don't think I really like either of them. And on a 2nd note, can I just say how annoying Amanda is?! Holy she's so freaking clueless. Alex is trying to explain something to her and it's like talking to a brick wall. And she sure loves starting dumbass arguments. it's so pointless. omg that girl is driving me nuts.
Wow, Jen & Ryan are ridiculous. They're so stupid. They basically got themselves into this shit (being nominated) and now they're trying to blame it on everyone else. First of all, why would they tell the WHOLE FREAKING HOUSE their secret? I know it was cause they thought Allison would spill the beans first, but COME ON, Allison is not that stupid..i'm sure she knew that if she spilled the beans, she herself would be in trouble too since she is ryan's partner. Gosh Jen & Ryan are dumb idiots. And then in the diary room, Ryan says something like "Everyone hates Allison..that's why I'm nominated". I was just like are you freaking kidding me?! YOU got yourself into this shit, everyone knows that, so don't blame it on your partner. YOU'RE the one that decided to spill the beans to the whole house. Allison was actually able to keep her mouth shut.
SPOILER --> Matt/Natalie decided NOT to use the POV, obviously. So the noms are still Jen & Parker, Ryan & Allison. _________________

^^OMG I know! Jen is sooo dumb! She deserved to go. It was SUPER dumb of her to announce to the ENTIRE house about her and Ryan. Like seriously, how dumb can you get?
this season is getting kinda booring =(
except i like Natt, Alex, Josh, Chelsia
and it gives me something to do in IT but other than that, blech.
we need some more Dr.Wills!!
i think i'm going to re-watch old seasons just for fun ahahha _________________
so Allison and Amanda have been hospitalized, Allison from an allergic reaction to a peanut and Amanda because she is hyperglycemic (i think) and BB wouldn't give her sugar..or something along those lines. I bet they'll both come back though. Oh and POV Winner = Sharon + Josh & they didn't use it. _________________
Okay tbqh I haven't watched the show since Josh's eviction but I recently checked my update sites, just for the hell of it, to see the final 2. My least favorite player in Team Christ has always been Ryan so I would rather cut out both my eyes than see him win and personally, out of TC, Adam is my favorite. He's never really done anything wrong, he's nice (or at least he was nice to Jamesy was no one else was), he's funny (albeit really wierd and creepy), he's won HOHs and POVs and played the game well and....I don't hate him? Which is always a plus in BB. So I want Adam to win, how about you guys? Aaand, who do you think will win? _________________
