Which hair straightener?

I'm planning on getting a new hair straightener soon, but i'm having trouble deciding which one to get. I want a good quality straightener that'll last long and keeps my hair straight all day, also one that easily curls hair as well. The one I have is fine for now, but it doesn't work that great and within a couple hours my hair begins to get a little wavy again.

I really want a GHD, but they're quite pricey. When I went into Sephora yesterday, I saw that they were $280 and $240. I also saw some T3 irons which were $210, and the sales lady said they were pretty good quality, too and will hold your hairstyle all day. And I've heard that Sedu is really good but I'm not sure where I could get that. I know that the CHI works really well, but I've also heard that it breaks within a year or so. I've heard the same about BaByliss. Confused

Does anyone have any of those straighteners? Or what kind do you have or would recommend? Opinions? Please and thank you! Happy

I've had a BaByliss straightener for a year now. It works very well for me and is still in top shape. It heats up very fast and it's really hot so it works nicely. You can also adjust he angle of the flat plates which is quite handy, too. I bought mine for $20 at Marshalls.

I've heard good things about Babyliss and CHI.
I have a Sedu straightner. I think it works really well, but it's hard for me to stay since my hair is only naturally wavy, and a lot easier to straighten. I've had it for 9 months now and I haven't had any problems with it. I got it for my birthday but I know my parents got it off Folica.com for about 100-120.

I would recommend the chi. Everyone loves it at the hair salon that I go to.

CHIs are best, but I have a Babyliss that works really well. I think they range in price from 100-150 probably, depending on the size. Heats up quick, gets hot, does the job, can make curls if you know how to do it right, not too expensive. It works well for me but I have really fine hair so I don't know if that helps for someone with thicker hair.

Just thought I'd add that my first Babyliss that I had lasted for over two years, and then the heat stopped working. The warranty was up but we called the company (or emailed, don't remember) and all we had to do was pay for shipping and they sent a new one that was very similiar (and 5 degrees hotter, scccoorre!). Happy

And it has not broken!

I have a CHI the only problem with it is that it doesnt have adjustable temp. so it'll get really hot

Thanks for all your input, girls! But I already got a GHD, my sister's bday present to me. I love it it works great. But I guess if I for whatever reason need to get a new straightener, I'll consider getting a CHI, or Babyliss.

^Well I've never tried a CHI before so I can't say. I assume they're similar though.

Mine is a brand called KQC and it works great. I've had it for over a year and it still works as good as new. My dad's friend bought it at a salon supply shop for me.

Angelino.: I had a CHI first, and it was good, but I wanted to get a ghd because I heard it was incredible. So I did, and there is no comparison. ghd is AWESOME.

The only bad thing I can think about my GHD is that sometimes it doesn't turn on right away. It scared me so much the first time it happened, I flipped the on switch but it didn't light up. And i started freaking out because it was like brand new, but then I read in the manual that you're supposed to press the reset button on the plug in. I felt silly haha.

I have a really inexpensive conair instant heat ceramic one, and it really works very well... I have thin hair though so it really doesnt take much for me lol

I'm actually looking for a straightener too. the Aveda salon I go to sells FHI Heat, which I decided to go look up on the internet. I actually have no idea still which irons are best, but I kept on hearing "CHI" and "Sedu" everywhere but not FHI. anyways, I read this article http://cool-best-flat-iron.blogspot.com/2008/02/chi-vs-fhi-which-is-best-flat-iron.html
and I think I might go with FHI, since I also heard a lot of peoples' CHI's break down. which is weird, since it's good quality and really expensive. maybe it's just those people's particular units...

Right now I have a Ceramix one. I've had it for like 3 years and it's starting to suck... it doesn't heat up as well anymore.

^ the FHI straightener I was looking at is called "Technique" and it says $120 on the website (I'm assuming it's US). Folica has it for $97.95 with free shipping (also, I think that's US). I did find it for a super cheap $45 on ebay.ca, and even after shipping costs and product tax, it still came out to $75 CAD. However, I don't know if I trust ebay sellers or not...do fake flat irons exist? Unfortunately I didn't see the price at my salon (grr), but it's probably closer to the $120 price. Yeah for sure if I get it I'll let you know how it works!
