anyways.. I need to lose weight. I'm hoping about 30 pounds... or more....
what do you guys suggest I should do?
any form of diet or excersing plan is appreciated.
right now I'm thinking about going to gym at least 3 times a week..
and maybe start doing yoga..
but I need motivation..
also.. how can I stop myself from eating when I'm not hungry?
just tell me all you know about losing weight!
thanx |

Set realistic goals. In reality, you should look at losing 1-2 pounds a week. One pound a week would mean that you have to burn 3500 calories. Take your diet as more of a lifestyle change. If you eat alot of cookies, for example, take cookies out. Then take chocolate out. Take it slow and you'll see more results (don't just start out on a whim, you might be less successful).
Figure out your BMR - Basal Metabolic Rate (how many calories you burn a day at rest, so like being inactive or lazy). Let's say that your BMR is around 1750, so if you eat a 1500 calorie a day diet and burn 250 calories a day from other activities (such as walking, running, etc.). You should technically lose about a pound a week.
Also, taking your measurements is a better way of tracking weight loss. BMI and weight can be deceiving, but measurements aren't. You could, for example, not lose any weight and still lose inches, because when you workout, you also tend to gain muscle.
Try to have a diet higher in protein, whole grains, healthier fats (try to not exceed 60 grams of fat a day).
A good calorie tracker is on sparkpeople.com, because they also track how much protein, carbohydrates and fat your are eating, and it is a great place to set goals.
Weight loss is pretty much calories in versus calories out. If you burn more calories than you intake, you'll lose weight. It's pretty simple, actually.
And if you ever need help on your diet, or any help to keep you on track, just post here or PM me and I'll for sure help! _________________

I think when you are young the real key is just working out. If you work out consistently you will loose weight.
Definitely goto the gym a few times a week. Is your school semestered? If so you should take an elective gym class if you have room in you schedule if its not to late.
For eating when you are not hungry the best thing to do is to stay busy! Because when you are bored thats when you head for the fridge most likely. Also if you like to snack you can snack on "negative calorie foods" stuff like celery and apples. They say you burn more calories eating and digesting those foods so they dont count really towards your calories for the day. Just google for a list! |

I think 30 pounds in 5 months is a little much...
but figure out your diet first. what are you eating? what aren't you eating enough of? start eating healthy as a lifestyle change, not a 5 month diet change. oh and smaller portions always help...
and yeah, for young people the best thing is working out which can be from doing anything as walking to intense gym workouts. walk instead of busing for short distances, small things will make the difference. Do a balanced workout of cardio AND strength training, which will help you turn the fat into muscle, which will burn more calories in the long run. and if you are strengthening up, don't weigh yourself! measure yourself with a tape measure and write down your measurements every few weeks. _________________ [aka mitsukoshi]

| Well, if you start working out, you might not notice a huge weight loss because muscle weighs more than fat. We will be loosing fat weight, but you will be gaining muscle weight. So even if the scale shows you have not lost alot, you can still look great, because you have toned your body. |

I think that the best thing to eat at school would be something home-packed. Because most cafeterias have food that is quite fattening, even though it's supposed to be healthy.
But one tip, make sure that you don't skip a meal; skipping meals will only mess up your metabolism. Try to eat five or six meals a day...the three main meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) and then two or three small snacks between the meals. I suggest that for your meals, you get a plate and put a certain amount of food onto it to eat so you can see how much you are actually eating and won't overeat. _________________ used to be 'sw33tlilhugz' on the old f18. yess cafe food is gross! Dunno what they put in there.
a sandwich is the classic choice, natural peanut butter sounds fattening, but it's all good oils + protein, which will make you full in the long run. Remember to pack some veggies too! Another twist on the classic sandwich is using different types of bread. Toast is so last decade, try pita, naan, a tortilla, kaiser bun, baguette slice, etc!
Or to have everything, I like pasta, coz pasta sauce makes everything taste good! :3
You can really eat anything, as long as it's balanced and the portion is enough (not too much!) though try to avoid fried things which are not only unhealthy, but quite addictive, like those fries you have everyday.
^^ remember to snack on fruits! hard during the winter, but great if you're a fan of the citrusy stuff like i am. _________________ [aka mitsukoshi]

remember... if you are gaining muscle, then you may weigh more because muscle weighs more than fat does. So, just keep that in mind, I don't know if someone already said that. _________________

i think you will find a huggeee difference if you stop eating those fries. like at my school i won't even buy lunch because i find if i do eat fries or something i'm left feeling gross and sick the rest of the day. i pack my lunch everyday and bring sandwiches, fruit, chocolate milk (like a juice box one) and i allow myself a cookie or two.
make sure you eat breakfast because this is the most important meal of the day. i am such a hypocrite because i say that and then most days i have a drink and eat nothing for breakfast. i used to be great with eating breakfast but now i find i can't eat so early. so make sure you get enough sleep so you're not too tired to eat in the morning! also it gets your brain going and gives you more energy for exercise. plus, when i used to eat breakfast i found myself thinner, more energetic, and smarter. so i'm gonna start eating it again even if i have to force myself!
i definitely recommend the gym. i break a huge sweat there and i always feel great after going. i burn more than i ever would on my own at home as we don't have any equipment and i don't want to run in the winter ice. i go with my friends but i would also go on my own if i wanted to; there's always other people there to talk to and sometimes just looking at their fitness motivates me.
i definitely recommend a shift in your eating habits and exercise, it will make you feel and look better for sure. best of luck! _________________

Woah... $200?? I'd stick with the gym........................ though you can always find a cheaper yoga class~ since you can do yoga without equipment, i don't think it's fair to pay $200 for it. _________________ [aka mitsukoshi]

I would suggest sticking with the gym as well. But you would have to be motivated enough to actually go regularly. _________________ used to be 'sw33tlilhugz' on the old f18. (; |

i'd stick with the gym, although yoga's good for you you probably won't find as great of results with it.
i heard though that lululemon has free yoga classes after the store is closed? i'm not 100% sure though. _________________

^ thats cool! but I guess if I want to take yoga classes at the store, they would expect me to wear lululemon clothing.. and right now I dont have the money to buy anything from there. I'm saving up for my dress..
Anyways.. I'mg going to try yoga tomorrow with my friend.. and we'll see how it goes.
Another question.. since school is starting next week, I think I'll get really busy, how should I fit in gym time into my schedule? and also, how long should I stay at the gym? is 1 hour enough? |

yup, one hour at the gym at one time is probably enough; you have to remember not to overwork your muscles! If I were you, I would probably go two or three times a week (Mondays to Fridays) after school and then once anytime during the weekend (Saturday, Sunday).
And just a heads up, if you're going to start working out at the gym, I think that you would have to go to one session where they explain equipment safety first (if you haven't already). _________________ used to be 'sw33tlilhugz' on the old f18. (; |

try to eat AS MUCH whole wheat as you can because it keeps you fuller longer
meaning that you wont get as hungry as quickly
GOOD LUCK! if you need any more motivation everyone here at F18 will support you! _________________ In Europe, without any computers. See you when I come back!<33-Serb- |

I don't think you'd have to but if you did why not use some of the $200 you were thinking about spending on a yoga class? |

ok, so today I went to the yoga class.. it was hell! like I said before it was in a heated room.. everyone was sweating from all over their bodies.. when we were lying down and the teacher was walking pass us, his sweat was dripping on us! Ew, I know!
anyways.. the class was 90 min. but it seemed like I was excersining for 5 hours. I was sweating sooooo much.
anyways.. I enjoyed it very much.. but I dont think I'll go back there again! I'll just stick to the gym..
but here is the problem! right after I got back home, I started eating... A lot!
so do you guys have any comments? |

don't worry or freak out too much if you ate too much...I do that a lot and feel really guilty after but I know that being guilty won't help me in any way.
After working out, you should drink a lot of water though and perhaps pack a small snack of some sort. Water is always useful because it'll fill you up and sometimes hunger can be mistaken for thirst. And when you eat the small (preferably healthy) snack, try to eat it really slowly so it seems like you are having a lot to eat when you're only eating a reasonable amount.
and good job for going to the yoga class! keep up your good work. _________________ used to be 'sw33tlilhugz' on the old f18. (; |

sounds like that yoga class was quite the workout, i have never tried yoga so i wasn't sure how much exercise you get out of it although i've heard its good.
well anyway yeah after i go to the gym i am starving! i bring apples and yogurt and that keeps me satisfied till dinner, and i drink like 2 bottles of water too. _________________

If you're not sure if you're hungry or not, wait 10 minutes and see how you feel then. If you're still feeling hungry get something light to eat! If not, distract yourself, take your mind off food. When that happens to me I like to brush my teeth because nothing tastes good after you've brushed your teeth! Plus you get whiter teeth! _________________
