My New Years resolution is to get into shape and lose some weight, i've been takin it pretty slowly considering it's almost Febuary now but anyways i have been starting to see a trainer and he's put me on a low carb/high protein diet, 1 hour at the gym 3 times a week consisting or 30minz weights and 30 minz cardio, and he's suggesting i start taking protien shakes everyday... but the impressive i've been gettin from most ppl i've been talkin to about it (mostly guys friends who work out) is that i don't need it, and it's for ppl who are trying to bulk up and gain muscle.. i have no idea if i should be takin 1 protein shake a day... any advice/personal experience?! thx in advance |

Hmm, protein powder DOES taste good 8) but I don't know if it will actually help you lose weight. Check out this website: http://www.intense-workout.com/protein_diet.html _________________

I don't think Protein powder helps you loose weight.. generally it's high in calories and/or fat.. I think it's more used to gain muscle mass.

I have a few friends taking protein powder... it's for helping to increase mass by building up the muscles.

Well, its good if he wants you taking alot of protein. I work at booster juice and the high protein smoothies are really good. They are a good meal replacement because they fill you up and the protein lets you stay fuller longer, so in a way it is helping. If you use it as a meal subsititute than it will help you lose weight. However, you shouldnt be taking protein shakes as snacks because they are meant to be meal replacements. So ya, hope I helped.

I know this is like, a year too late, but while there are some protein powders out there that are for increasing muscle mass, there are also ones (Whey Gourmet, ISO Whey for example), that are simply a protein source for shakes. If you're looking for a relatively low-cal/high protein supplement, try one of those two brands.

At work we sell protein powder in a couple flavours..it's made by PVL brand, and it comes in a large container or medium container but you can also buy the little one serving pouches. I read the back and it seems to be pretty healthy, and it's filling too. I tried the orange creamsicle flavour but it was disgusting! Probably because the water I added it to wasn't really cold. It just grossed me out that it was orange and milky and lukewarm (I know, creamsicle). But I think chocolate might be better. I think it would help with weight loss and also for building muscles because they need protein to grow. And if you want to lose weight I don't think you should just lose fat, I think it's better to turn the fat into muscle. That can also assist you in cardio and other workouts. I hope I made sense...cause I'm not too sure if I'm right, but anyway that's my opinion.
here's the sight..i'm not trying to advertise
