So I wanna ask for a sewing machine for Christmas, but I don't know what to look for. I've only ever sewed at school so I don't know anything really complicated. Just the usual sewing, buttonholes, etc. So what should I look for when buying my first sewing machine? And where should I go to buy? What are your preferred brands? I was thinking of getting a Kenmore at Sears, because I heard they're pretty good and not as expensive as the bigger brands.

Yeah... I'm always hearing that the Kenmores are really good and they last a really long time. I myself, bought a Kenmore just last weekend.. it's second-hand so it was $30 for me. I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you what to look for. The only thing I cared about when I was looking for mine on craigslist was that it worked, it was a sewing machine, and it was cheaper than $100.

Good luck!

well i don't really know much about sewing machines...i just know my mom has a Singer she's had for like EVER (i'm saying like 35 years!). She's used it lots...to make curtains and duvet covers, clothes when she was younger, uhm....christmas stockings...all kinds of things! and it still works amazingly.
