I decided to dip into my savings and reward myself by spending $100.
I'm very stingy so this is kind of a big thing for me, haha.

I need suggestions and advice, so ANYTHING you can think of is welcome! Happy

Basically, I want the most bang for my buck!
SO, WHAT should I buy
and
WHERE should I get them?
(I'm sick of buying a bunch of cheaply made clothing
instead of putting the money into fewer, better made items.)

I'm URGENTLY looking to get:
- some zip hoodies
- some cute graphic tees that LAST for more than one season
- some basic, plain longsleeved tees (not pricey pls)
(*I found my cute cardigan+camis! i just haven't bought them yet, lol.)

ALSO I've wanted a lululemon scuba remix hoodie for SO LONG.
I can get one at the lululemon warehouse for around $90 (slightly cheaper than instore) but that takes a HUGE chunk out of my budget.

I can get a solid coloured one (possibly reversible) or one of these:

WHAT SHOULD I DO???

[edit/update]

I went to old navy and their plain, roundneck longleeved shirts were $17.50 Sad
Anywhere else you can think of?

MY WARDROBE:
- 5-8 tshirts half of them aren't in great shape cuz they're a couple of years old
- 1 longsleeved henley
- 1 longsleeved vneck shirt
- 3 hoodies that I bought a couple of years ago
- 3 zip hoodies that shrank a while back
- 2 knit sweaters that i'm okay with
...and I'm ok for pants+jeans. Happy

UGHHH my wardrobe is BUGGING me! my mom (who pays for my stuff) says i have enough clothes
and that i should just make do with what i have.
UMM..ok..I really don't think I have THAT many clothes. No exaggeration!

SO I still can't decide:
Should I get a lululemon scuba hoodie OR spend it on a whole bunch of items?

TIA! Icon_heart2

For long sleeved shirts I usually go to Old Navy. I think they were around $10 each or like a 2 for ___ kind of deal but they are relatively inexpensive.

Camis and beaters, Suzy Shier has some for 2 for $15, and they have a lot of things on clearance right now too so there might be some things in there. Their clearance items are DIRT cheap.

Hoodies, I would go to Off the Wall. Most of their hoodies are about $40 each and they have prints, and solid colors. Although if you do want better quality and selection, TNA hoodies are still #1 in my books. But the problem with TNA is that everyone might have the same hoodie that you plan to get. Plus they are pretty expensive.. $69 +

Graphic tees: wow endless possibilities, check out AE and if you do get a chance, Abercrombie, and Hollister. They usually have really good clearance as well. You could also try Off the Wall

Cardigan: Look in places like Suzy Shier, Urban Behavior, Bootlegger, and Off the Wall. It shouldn't be too expensive in those places, maybe $30

Definitely check out Old Navy for the long sleeved shirts! They have so many on sale now for under 10 bucks, all different styles.

go for the lululemon hoodie, they are good quality and something that will last a while. it's good because it's sort of like investing in something that you can have for a long time, instead of something you'll wear a few times then get tired of (i.e. t-shirts). also, you said yourself you've wanted it for a long time, so reward yourself Happy

While I really do love the Scuba hoodie, I think your wardrobe needs a little more than one thing added to it. Before I can really suggest exactly what to get, maybe give us a little on your style. You seem to be classic/casual, is that the kind of clothing you want to continue to wear? Do you have a job or something that needs fancier clothing?
I definitely would go check out stores like Urban Behaviour, H&M, Sirens, Smart Set and Winners. It might also be good to look at second-hand stores like the Salvation Army. Sometimes, you can find really nice pieces, you just have to go thru all the junk first (kind of like Winners, digging thru the pile of clothes for treasure Happy )

I know eh? My gut says I should spend the money on a variety of items. BUT I can see myself wearing the Scuba hoodie ALL the time (I'm a university student). My style's definitely classic/casual, like the AE/Hollister/Hurley kinda look. I have the option of borrowing some of my mom's oxford/button-up shirts to wear with a vest but, as much as I like the chic/dressy look (à la Suzy Shier/Costa Blanca), sadly it's not very practical for me. Sad
I don't like to layer jacket upon hoodie upon henley upon cami or cami under cardigan under etc. (although that's the current trend it seems). Plus, I NEED to be comfortable cuz I spend most of my time on the bus or sitting in class.
I LOVE hoodies like these:
http://images2.pacsun.com/is/servlet/izoom/PacSunProducts/4068417_01?$product_detail$
http://images2.pacsun.com/is/servlet/izoom/PacSunProducts/3932217_01?$popupLarger_productBig$
http://images2.pacsun.com/is/servlet/izoom/PacSunProducts/3972643_01?$product_detail$
http://images2.pacsun.com/is/servlet/izoom/PacSunProducts/3972742_01?$product_detail$
BUT they cost $50+ apiece AND they're not nearly as thick, warm or well-made as the Scuba hoodie. I bought two Hurley zip-hoodies like these for back to school but ended up returning them because I could tell that their quality would roll downhill after 5 washes or so. I know that Bluenotes and Urban Planet have hoodies like those but I'm pretty sure their clothes go kaput after one season. AE's quality has gotten poorer over the years too..AND they're pricey! ><

I think ALL of the lululemon hoodies are REALLY hideous, IMHO.
I would spend 100 bucks on something really worth it. I also think lulu scubas are OVERRATED. If you spend all ur money on that, I think it'd be a great chance (like 80%) for u to regret later on.

i dont really like the patterned lululemon scuba hoodies that much but i think that the solid colour ones are pretty nice (and really good quality). however, i think that you should just spend your money on a few pieces of clothing but try not to go to stores where you know that the material will be bad. you could always try going to thrift shops (value village, etc.) because sometimes, they will have nice stuff for cheap and it'll probably be original too so not everyone will have it. or just lurk around many different stores at the mall for sales; thats what i always do! Very Happy 8)

Brainwave at 3:00am, yikes! I FOUND WHERE TO GET long sleeved basic shirts -- only $10 by Joe: http://www.joe.ca/ProductDetails_en.aspx?pid=809 !!!

How's Aeropostale's quality? They have some NICE cheap stuff that I LOVE!

ETC.!!!

I've never been to the Aero store at Metrotown SO I was wondering, what're their Canadian prices like?
http://www.aeropostale.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2655123&cp=2284058.2038748&fDomain=Aeropostale&searchBySize=Y&fCat=2038748&searchId=2038748&categoryId=2038748&fpricesort=priceAscending&parentPage=search
this for example is $15; would it be the much more expensive up here?

Never been to Aero, so can't help you out with prices/quality.
But I still think you should get a bunch of casual items instead of one hoodie. Joe's has some nice basics for cheap. So does Urban Behaviour and Suzy Shier. You can get short-sleeeved basics for about 12-15$ and long sleeves sweaters for 20-25$. Some of Costa Blanca's simplest style might be something you'd wear. Plus clearance racks are always great Happy. Are the solid coloured scuba hoodies as much as the graphic-prints? Because maybe you could afford one of the solid coloured ones.

For graphic tees, why not try designing your own? Just buy some fabric paint and cheapo dollarstore brushes and a solid printed tee. Sketch out what you want to do on the shirt, then draw it in washable markers. Once that's all done, start painting Happy

^^yikes, never rely on their website for the canadian prices! in metrotown, i think those hoodies are $39.50-$49.50. im not sure how their quality on hoodies is...but i think that they're pretty good because my friends have them.

I'm a stingy person too, and even though I *love* the Lululemon Scuba, I can't see myself spending that much on a hoodie. I would probably just buy a few items instead of one.

If you're looking for items that'll last, don't go to Urban Behavior, Costa Blanca, Sirens, Stitches or Urban Planet (they're all the same company). Although the clothes look nice and won't put a dent in your pocket, they aren't the most durable and aren't of the best quality.

For the best quality and value, I'd suggest going to H&M (their boxing day deal was "buy one, get one free" last year), Old Navy (a t-shirt I bought 3 years ago is still looking great), Roots, and Real Canadian Superstore (for clothing by Joe Fresh Style).

Those scuba hoodies are cute but I don't think they're worth the money. You'll be much happier if you go and buy a few items-like some cute sweaters that will keep you warm running around UBC :P

Places like Off the Wall have really cute hoodies-then you'd still have money to buy some other things also to fill up your wardrobe.

the aero hoodies in my opinion are really good. ive gotten plenty of them in the past and they hold up really long. i still have one from like a year ago and its like in perfect condition. for prices im not sure b/c i live in the states. the hoodies usually cost around $20 depnding on style or if there is a sale. so im thinking in canada they would be around $30.

oh and since your looking for a new wardrobe i say go with your gut.if you really think your gunna wear the hoodie plenty of times enough for you to feel satisfied with yourself i would say buy it. as for l/s shirts aero also has some nice ones in right now with hearts all over. they are quite cute. i say go to aero b/c the have the kinda similar style that you like to wear with reasonable prices.

Well I think that you should buy some staple items before buying a hoodie, but I absolutely love the first one. I havent seen one like that anywhere!! Is it in stores right now?

Well...I think you should probably go for the staple items first because they are like essentials that you should have in your wardrobe. If you really want the Scuba hoodie, though, why don't you wait a bit and ask for it for Christmas? It's only...around two months away, so it wouldn't be that long of a wait. That's what I did with mine - kind of at least - because I wanted a new hoodie and my friends bought it for me for my birthday.

Hmmm.
I like simple basic clothes, so if I were to get the hoodie I'd get the black one. =]
I actually really like the striped Aeropostale sweater! Personally, I'd find other items... like, maybe you can find a cheaper hoodie (but still nice) and you'll have like $20 left perhaps, and you can buy a cute top with that.

thanks for the opinions everyone!

@ tropical_pink: I've never been to Aero, so i have no idea if it's in stores or not :P

@ emcee: unfortunately, i don't get such pricey Christmas presents ;)_orange the gifts i get cost under $50. thanks for the suggestion though!

@ lov3ly: i know eh? I LOVE
and especially!

maybe i should just stock up on good quality stuff from the States, spend a little more than $100 (maybe $200? I have $500 of personal non-school-fees savings so I don't know how much i should spend..) and not shop for a year+! haha

feel free to post more comments/thoughts Very Happy

I LOVE the first scuba hoodie! I think it's adorable! I've never really been to Lululemon, but one's opening here in London in about a week (actually.. a week and a day, now that I've checked) and I'm very excited haha. Are these available in the regular stores?

I think you should maybe get a TNA zip up ( around $65) this way you can still buy something else and not blow all of you money on one thing.lol ........(dont get me wrong i luv the scuba hoodies but when ur on a budget try to spend your money on more than one thing) Happy

Also, If you go to Hollister or A&F ( if there is 1 near you) they have a little area that is all clearence items! check it out! Happy Happy

Aeropostale's quality is just average, like they're t-shirts aren't thick, and my white one is kind of see through, but my pink one feels nice. My white t-shirt does feel good I don't know lol. But the sweatshirts there are really nice and warm, and around 40$ I believe.

I know I said earlier go for the scuba hoodie, cause I was thinking you'd already have staples (I guess I didn't read that well!) but yeah if you're redoing your whole wardrobe get the staples first!

Is it just me, or is this page messed up? Like reallly wide?

^yeah, the page is really wide!

hmm...i know that i posted in this section already a few times but now that i look back at your first post again, i think that there are just two things that you really need. you live in vancouver, right? and vancouver is getting really cold and the weather's pretty unpredictable so its always better to go out with warmer stuff. so i think that you probably should get one really warm hoodie and one long sleeved shirt first. i suggest you go to bootlegger for the hoodie...their hoodies range from $39.50 to around $59.50 and i really like them! i only have one hoodie from there so far but its super soft and really warm. i also think that the roxy ones are pretty nice...my friend has one that is printed with hearts all over and the lining is fur so it must be warm too!

i bought a white lululemon scuba hoodie used (worn twice only!) for $40. it's the older design (you can tell by the zipper pull -- it's not elastic) but i don't care! it's soft, comfy, warm and quite frankly, thicker than the new ones i've tried in store. ah well. now i can definitely afford a whole range of stuff! yayyyy! Very Happy
i just feel a bit bad cuz although i used my own money t pay for it, i didn't tell my mom that i was buying it until after i got it.. ack. Icon_XP

the lululemon #1 hoody is really, really cute but if you baragain right you can get a lot for $100. if youre more into designers than i would go with the scuba hoody but if you dont really mind the designer than get a cheaper hoody and maybe a henley or t-shirt.
