|
|
I was bored yesterday and decided to take pictures of some of my thrift/vintage finds. It's great because they're all one-of-a-kind and unique, and even a cute vintage piece of jewellery or accessory can add some spice to an otherwise plain or typical (ie. ae, hollister, etc etc) outfit. Anyways, here's a bunch of pictures..do whatever you want..comment, critique, give me outfit ideas..whatever. And just to let you all know ahead of time, most of the items looks MUCH BETTER when they're actually being worn..so the pics don't really justify them, haha. Oh well. Oh, and it would be really nice for you guys to share some of your vintage/thrift finds too.
White little shift dress a bit longer than mid-thigh length. It was handed down from my Mom. It's cute, simple, versatile, chic, classic. Enough said.
High waisted Floral shorts handed down from my mom. They looked really wide and weird before so I sewed an elastic at the bottom of each leg opening so when worn, it creates a cute modern 'bubble' effect. Obviously you can't tell from the pic, but whatev. And I don't like wearing them high-waisted since it makes it look a bit tacky and too over-the-top so I usually wear a longer top to cover it. I love the floral print on these shorts..gorgeous.
Black sleeveless large eyelet blouse. I got this from a Salvation Army thrift store for $4. I love it because it's cute and goes with practically everything. It's sort of large so I usually belt it at the waist.
Navy blue collared dress about mid-thigh length handed down from my mom. Haha it looks messed up in the picture, but trust me, it looks much better on and in person. I really like this because it's plain so there's so much I can do with it (like belt it, layer a scarf, add some long layered necklaces, etc). And it's super comfy.
Vintage bags, these are probably my favourite vintage items that I own. The pink and navy chain-strap bags remind me of vintage Chanel. The pink one I got at a Salvation Army thrift store for $6, and the blue one I got from Value Village for $4 (which was a great deal because it's in such good condition you could pass it off as brand new). I love the chain-strap ones because the gold instantly glams up an outfit. The black vintage Christian Dior was handed down to me from my Grandma. It goes with everything, I love it.
Some random accessories..all handed down from my mom. There's more but I didn't feel like taking pics of everything. Question: Can you guys reccommend some different ways to wear the brooches, besides pinning them to a jacket/blazer? Because I want to wear them without looking too 'old-fashioned' and I'm stumped on ideas. So any ideas how to make them more modern and youthful?
Navy blue Alfred Sung wool pencil skirt handed down from mom. I wore it once and I don't know if I'll ever wear it again. I think I need some outfit ideas for this one too...
Black over-sized V-neck school cardigan. Haha my music teacher was cleaning out this closet that she hasn't opened in years near the end of the school year, and she found tons of these sweaters so practically everyone in my music class got one for free. I think she said they're from the 80s or 90s which is so hard to believe because mine was brand new (the tags were still on) and in such good condition! I like how's it an oversized fit because it's much more comfortable and yeah..I just like oversized things.
Bronze thick hoop earrings I got from Value Village for $4 (they were brand new). I love them, they make me look glamorous lol.
Knee-length dressyish grey skirt handed down from my mom. It looks really long but that's just because it's pretty high-waisted. Anyways, any outfit ideas for making this more casual? Or should I just save it for a fancier event...
Dark brown leather vintage Anne Klein vest handed down from my mom. I pair this with a l/s black or white tee and some jeans since I like it to speak for itself. It sort of gives a bohemian-chic vibe I guess, depending on how it's worn. It looks great un-zipped just layered over a tee as well.
Vintage blue coat, which I think my grandma handed down to my mom, who handed it down to me. I loove this. It looks great by itself since it's such an eye-catching piece. And the colour is gorg.
Vintage red coat my mom handed down to me. I love this one as well, probably more than the previous one. It has a mandarin collar, cute little buttons, and an empire waist (which really defines the waist). It's really heavy, but once I put it on, I feel like a million bucks. It's in perfect condition as well. And trust me, this looks so much better on..it's not so flattering in the photo, but on the body it is. This coat kinda reminds me of the Givenchy one Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's in the scene where she and Paul/Fred spend the day in New York doing things they've never done before. But her's was more orange and the buttons were bigger.
A bunch of random vintage shoes that belong to my mom. Unfortunately, my mom's got the tiniest feet (like size 4-5, I don't even know how she's able to find these in her size but I suppose shoes ran much smaller back then) and I'm a size 7-8 so I can't wear them =( But they're still nice to look at so i thought I'd still post some pics. She's got a few more but these are the ones I like best.
Top left: Grey & black suede pumps.
Top center: Red suede pointy toes.
Top right: White leather pumps w/ gold hardware detail.
Bottom left: Pewter & black pumps with a sort of 'zig-zag' design.
Bottom middle: Pewter and black pumps with 'spikes' around opening.
Bottom right: Light brown patent pumps.
Very right: Black menswear inspired pumps.
Vintage floral button-up empire waist dress I got from Value Village for $6. It looks like one side is longer but that's only because it was hanging crookedly on the hanger. I think this floral print is/will be very 'in'. One of the pieces from the Kate Moss for Topshop collection remind me a lot of this, and I also saw a similar dress at Mango. I love this dress because it's a versatile piece. I can wear it with a belt, bare legs, and sandals for a casual summer look, or add on tights and an un-buttoned cardigan for a fall look. And for a more feminine dressy look, I can pair it with pumps and bare legs. I love it.
Vintage printed l/s dress I got from Value Village for $6. This is great for Fall/Winer with some tights and boots or maybe pumps. The skirt bottom sort of has a 'swingy' look which is very 50s and classy. And once again, there's an empire waist which creates a very flattering silhouette (again, the photo doesn't justify the dress). The pattern on this is exquisite and the colours are very vibrant and rich (at least they are in real life). I love these last two dresses because they're both very boho-chic. _________________

the blue purse reminds me of vintage chanel
as for the brooches you could put them on elastics for when you tie your hair
put them on your shoe laces
or pin them on your new scarf _________________
