Did anyone one else freak when they heard about this? I for one thought it was a joke at first, but then I later found it it was for real. What are your thoughts?

^It's weird to think that celeb life is hard, but I guess it's true. Poor Owen.

When I heard, I was definitely surprised.

But I don't agree with the statement that a celebrity's life is "hard". I don't think it's any easier or harder than anyone's life. Everyone has to deal with pressures and difficulties, and despite your wealth or fame, when it comes down to it such novelties won't really help you if you're going through a challenging time. As such, I think that we shouldn't expect that a celebrity's lifestyle is necessarily easygoing and carefree, but we shouldn't expect that it's like, really hard either. Just because their challenges are publicized doesn't make them any harder than ours. What I'm really trying to say, though, is everyone's life is hard. You can't expect them to be easy after all, just cause they're rich and famous.

This is so sad, and apparently he dropped out of this movie he was supposed to be filming since he's trying to recover. How and why would he try and commit suicide though?

i guess apparently that he was on a three day drug binge (crystal meth and something else) when he slashed his wrists...
drugs are fucked up. apparently he had a heroine addiction that everybody thought he had kicked and then he started back up again when him and kate hudson broke up (or thats why they broke up... something)
its just so sad. like really, who could have seen this coming?
but at least he's okay!!
could you imagine... i'd be so so sad if he wasn't!!

yea i guess it isnt hard, it is the path they choose to take, right?
like their life can be OK, depending on their descions.

^ugh. well yeah some people make it harder for themselves than they should.
like lindsay and paris and nicole could have avioded jail by simply hiring a driver... but anyway, i know it's not a life i would want to live. i think it would be hard to say no to a lot of things, espically if you're young and on top of your game...
can you imagine, everywhere you go, the press if flocking you? i think it would be a tad hard to live with. i think that some celebs do have tough lives, but it's a path they choose so it's pretty hard to feel sorry for them.

I agree with the fact that everyone has problems, whether you are a celebrity or not. But I do believe that celebrities do have a 'hard' life because everything they do is publicized. Sure, they invite the publicity because it is how they make their living, but they still have to adjust to it and live with it, even when they decide they don't want it anymore. This is not to say that other people do not have harder or equally hard lives without the publicity, just that when someone is severely depressed, having to deal with the press won't make their problems easier. Quite the opposite, I think.
