I've heard that some places require at least 16 hours/3 shifts a week. How true is this? School is starting and I really don't want to work more than 10 hours. -.-

I know at my work I have to work a minimum of 3 hours during that shift to get paid. It really depends on what job it is that you work at. I know at my work they'd let me only work once a week if I wanted but that's because my managers are pretty flexible and I've been working there for almost a year and they know I'll show up.

It's true that some stores do require a specific amount of hours from their employees. For example, Gap requires you to have three shifts each week, one being on one of their busier days. However, the place that I work is fine with me working just 2 shifts (about 10 hours) each week when school starts.

Oh and also my friend works at an old folks home serving meals so all the shifts are only 3 hours. She told me that she usually worked a maximum of 9 hours a week.

The store I worked at (shouldn't say "worked" because technically I'm going back to work there soon haha) required you to be available for 3 shifts a week totally 12 hours. You HAVE to work minimum of 4 hour shifts-although there is a "cleaning" shift on Sunday that's only 3hrs and I often get sent home after 2hrs during the slow times.
Usually though, depending on the type/size of place you're working at you might not even end up working the minimum. During the slow period at the store I worked at I might only work 8 or 9 hours a week.
