i'm only 14 but i really want to get a job during like the summer. i know its kinda far away but i was wondering what jobs have the best salary/schedule during summer, and such. any suggestions?

not sure about the minor part, but im pretty sure that there are no prerequisites. i hear they offer good training!

If you're willing to give up a lot of your summer days, then go try the food courts...

Obviously people would want to get the summer off, that's why I'll bet that they will be hiring before summer vacation starts; my manager was telling us the other day that we won't be allowed to take breaks or vacations after June 15th because July and August are the busy months; they'd need as many people to work.

As far as scheduling goes .. wow .. I've heard so many employment horror stories regarding that place =P.

If you don't like the idea of working somewhere like McDonalds or Harveys, try a supermarket or drugstore, like No Frills, PharmaPlus, Food Basics, etc. A lot of my friends got their first job at a supermarket or similar places [like Superstore] and they've been there for over 2 years .. so they like it. Plus having something like that on your resume helps later on when you're 16 and want to apply to a better retail-y place [like some clothing stores].

At 15, many of my friends ended up with 36 hour weeks [.. full time hours] often lasting till very very late at night, during the school year, and it was basically a scheduling nightmare. Some of them are good, some of them pay no attention at all to when you are available and when you aren't and just schedule you when you want.

Plus you get paid minimum wage to put up with absolute bullshit .. most of my friends have worked there at least ONCE in their lives [I think everyobdy works at a Timmys at least once in their lives, out of desperation - I mean they're always hiring] and either quit after a month out of exhasperation, stayed for 2 years and became supervisor/manager [but now they're kicking themselves since they wish they had left earlier and gotten work experience at a more pleasant, fun, educational place where they could put it on a resume and it'd actually have meaning], and so on, or got fired shortly after being hired because they complained about the scheduling.

Also, many of them don't pay much attention to labour laws .. not the BIG ones, like minimum wage or anything like that, but the smaller more minor laws that nobody really notices until their rights are being trampled on by a huge HUGE corporation that sort of treats their employees like shit [not all Timmys, but many of them].

i thought about applying this summer to a starbucks opening near me....has anyone worked there before? would it be a good place to apply for a first time job?

If you like working with kids, you could look and see if they need help at any day camps around your neighbourhood...When I was 14 I worked in the summer at the daycare that was before and after the camp, so I still had between 9 and 4 to enjoy my summer break...and if you're a good swimmer and like being in the water, consider taking classes to be a lifeguard or a swimming instructor. Happy

^ Becoming a lifeguard takes forever... You have to take a lot of classes before, and then one class every week or so... So by the time you're one you'll be able to work next year

My friend works at Starbucks and loves it. Mainly just because she gets a 30% discount there lol.

I work at a bank..and its semi stressful and I can't seem to get a lot of hours in to work since I have to og to school and the bank closes at 5 most days. However I have learned so much from working there. And it will look very good on resumes in the future. So yes...

Maybe the food court cause they'll be willing to hire a lot of people inthe summer. Or maybe a paper route because you do it in the morning then your off the whole day.

I would get a job at the mall and look for a place where the people are really nice and look like theyre having fun. It also wouldn't hurt to find a job where the people are helpful and useful, because if you get a job at a place where people are retards, you'll end up doing all the work and getting mad at them, lol. I work at Booster Juice and I absolutely love it. I have an awesome boss and the people are really fun to work with.

my friend just got a job at Buffalo! she's getting paid $9/h and she's 15. they get 50% all clothes for employers discount which is great!her shifts are part-time, about 10-15 hrs/week.

I just applied to Starbucks, I hope I get the job!

It's hard to say what a good place to work is, you never know untill you work there. I've had friends working at cool clothing stores/trendy restaurants and hating it for being boring. I worked at Harveys for a year and wasn't sure if I should take the job because I imagined working with deep fryers, but it was actually alot of fun and I became super close with my coworkers.

^I don't want to ruin your hopes but I heard that Starbucks only hires full time. Apparently it's because it takes 3 months to train and is expensive for them to do so, so they only want full time people, not just summer time people.

But if you were going to continue part time all year round then they might accept that.

Ah... I work at the caboto club. I guess that if you decide to work at a hall that holds wedding receptions and the like as a SERVER, that will be very good. You get a lot of money for doing nearly nothing at all.

I really like my job. I work at a Cemetery (its through the city).
Its pretty easy ... all I am doing now is just watering sod which can defanatly get boring but we can listen to ipods so its better. I also get to drive around in a golf cart.... hello, FUN!
They are really slack since its not a company. I think I only work about half the time I am supposed to haha.
And no one gets mad at you... and the people are awesome.
Plus the money is good $16.90 per hour.. 9.5 hours a day.. = $4000 for the summer

And lastly, I always have a long weekend because I dont have to work friday, sat, sun
