• Don't starve yourself! Skipping meals only tricks your body into thinking its survival is threatened, and it will hold onto its fat stores for dear life. Icon_drinking01
• Eat slowly and chew each bite completely to decrease your appetite. Icon_bored1
• Eat three small meals and two snacks daily instead of two or three huge meals. Icon_movingon
• Don't work while eating. Separate all of your activities from your meals, so you can concentrate on what and how much you're eating. Icon_ohlord
• Beware of the wall you may hit at 3Surprised0 p.m. Many people feel the urge for a caffeine or sugar lift at this time. Have some fruit or crackers on hand to combat this. Icon_hot_dog
• Read labels carefully. Some low fat items are very high in calories. Icon_ahh
• To slow yourself down, eat with the opposite hand you usually eat with. :icon_wavetowel:
• Stay away from energy bars, which imply that they will transform you into a fit person. Most of them are loaded with calories. Icon_nono2
• Make your own smoothies. Those made commercially usually contain fattening syrups, but your home-made smoothies (without the gunk) are very healthy. Icon_relax
• If you need whipped cream, whip up chilled evaporated skim milk - your creation will contain only half a gram of fat per cup. :icon_yahoo:
• Substitute pureed tofu for two thirds of the butter in cake and cookie recipes. This will cut out 43 grams of saturated fat. Icon_applause1
• Chew sugarless gum. It speeds up the digestive system, burning more calories, and sometimes kills a craving. :icon_thumbsup:
• Grab something to drink. Sometimes, cravings for food are really thirst in disguise. :icon_Happy_932:
• Reward yourself regularly, (don't use food as a reward) buy a new outfit, get a new hair style, even if it's just a grin of approval in the mirror. Icon_gimmefive
• Don't weigh yourself every day. Instead, get on the weight scales once a week to avoid discouragement. Icon_bolt
• Instead of obsessing over your weight, keep track of your waist measurement, body fat percentage or clothing size. Icon_ten_out_of_ten_emoticon
• Don't skip breakfast. You will lose weight more quickly if you have a bite to eat in the morning. (speeds metabolism) Icon_ohmygod
• Drink hot water with lemon. Icon_meditate

Get LOTS of quality sleep. A solid 8 hours does wonders. According to Chinese medicine, your body does most of its repairs+regeneration between 11:00pm and 2:00am so make sure you get your shut eye at around 11:00pm Happy 10:30pm if you want to give your body a "head start"

^ yeah and not only that, but alcohol can't be "metabolized" or "burned" like carbs can, that's where the beer gut comes from, some of it always stays in your body.

I don't understand how some people can skip meals and/or not eat for an entire day and manage to lose weight. :/

^well they would not lose the weight that same day but (just like when you are anorexic) when you dont eat, first you ACTUALLY get bigger and THEN you lose the weight

^^Actually, you WOULD lose weight if you skipped meals or fasted. Your metabolism just wouldn't be AS fast as it normally is because it had no fuel to "start it up". So fasting or skipping meals is less effective overall for weight loss than exercising and eating smaller portions and better foods because you ARE slowing down your metabolism.
The weight people gain when they have disordered eating habits come from the binging phases.

^ No, you do lose weight, but it's a lot easier to regain it afterwords. Because you've slown down your metabolism, once you start eating normally, your body doesn't use up everything you put back into it. So then you gain weight. That,s why, if you go on a fast, you need to slowly come off it with small portions of healthy and easy to digest foods. Otherwise, either your body will hoard it or you won't be able to keep it down because it's too rich and your body isn't used to that. Then of course, there's water weight. When you fast you may lose some, so you think you've lost "fat" weight when you've actually only lost water that your body needs to function. Those are the two reasons you usually gain weight after stopping fasting.

those are good tips. luckily i am really skinny no matter what i eat! haha. i still it healthy cause i know if i eat rap, one day it will catch up to me.l so if anyone else is like that, dont eat crap even if it doesnt make you gain wait. in the long term it is better for you. plus, right away your whole body feels great. when i eat junk, usually i feel sluggish and yucky after. haha./

if you make a cake, you can omit the eggs and oil for caramel or almond tofu, 35 calories compared to 129. =)

i am another one of those lucky people who never gain weight. i just have a freaky metabolism.

i know it's been said before, but i can't stress it enough- don't skip meals!! i read an article a little while ago that said if you want to lose weight, always eat breakfast. it really speeds up your metabolism more than other meals do. when you don't eat, it tricks your system into staying in sleep-mode so your system isn't really doing anything except storing more fat. if there is no food in your system, there's no calories to burn. but when you eat, it wakes your system up big time and gets your metabolism working for the rest of the day.

oh and eat lots of small meals of course, too. sometimes i have two suppers, but i make sure i don't eat too much.

Awesome tips Happy

My trick also is not eating after 7pm...i just have some fruit if I do get hungry after that time, it helps when wanting to lose a few extra pounds.....
