I got a retail job at 15 .. actually I was BARELY 15, I had just turned 15 when they hired me. If you're only 15, it really helps if you've got some work experience already under your belt before applying for a retail job, so at least you can say you have some experience with people and have developed some decent customer service skills. I worked as a sales clerk/cashier in a drug store for 2 months and having that on my resume really helped when I wanted to get into retail. Plus a drug store is a lot busier than many clothing stores [or other "typical" places you think of when you think of retail] so I was prepared for anything =P haha.
Also, try supermarkets .. like Food Basics, A&P, No Frills, etc. .. even if you don't want to stay, get the experience dealing with customers, learning how to do cash, how stocking works, then apply to a place you really want to work.
Some places will specify, 16 and over ONLY .. and because I didn't put my age on my resume [bad idea, anyway] I still got hired at one of those places while I was still 15, but then they made me wait until I was 16 [only a month =P] and then they let me start working. And now I've been there for like a year and a half .. so yeah anything can happen! |

It depends where you want to work because I know that around here (Ottawa area), most retail places won't hire you until you're 16. Most fast food places will hire at 14 or 15.. same with supermarkets and drugstores.
I would highly recommend working at the drugstore because some places will start you WAY above the student minimum wage. The drugstore across the street from where I work pays students $8.50/h weekdays and $10.10/h on weekends (student minimum wage is $7.25 here). Pretty sweet if you ask me. Then again I heard it's pretty hard to get in there.. |

| ^ It depends what province you live in. Fast food in ON is 14, at least where I live. Some supermarkets hire at 16, some a little earlier than that, depending on their individual store policy. It's easiest just to call them first so you know who not to waste a resume on. And the drugstore where I worked hired me at 14 but technically they shouldn't have hired anybody under 16 .. but once I was hired they couldn't fire me for something like that. |

I know you can work at fast food at around 14, because I started at 14.
I know some people who are 15 that work at American Eagle, but to work at Starbucks, you HAVE to be 16 or older. It even says that on the application. _________________

Basically for fast food, age is pretty flexible. I mean- at least it is here.
My friend was hired at a fast food restaurant when she was only thirteen.
Lol, so yeah- and she just turned thirteen too. She might've even been
twelve actually. If she was twelve she was going to be thirteen in a couple
of days tho. Haha but yeah okay, I'm kindof rambling on about it.. |
