I'm 16, never wore makeup before. I feel a bit behind. So what do you suggest to be good starters??
I plan on going on a huge makeup shopping spree this weekend and would like to see what some of your favourites are.
I currently don't wear any makeup so I want to start I've been reading some reviews on MUA but would like actual responses :]
I'm wondering on what kind of the following [brand.. possibly shade?] do you wear and how it worked for you?
I'm scared to get foundation because I heard it can get quite cakey and clogs pores. I have a bit of acne, little bumps here and there, so would a tinted moisturizer work better instead of foundation?
I also don't know how to choose the proper colour, yes I am a total newbie so please help!
- Foundation [is it really bad for your skin?
- Tinted moisturizer [better alternative??]
- Pressed Powder ; Loose Powder- Blush
- Concealer [covering up pimples and under eye circles] <-- really need this.
These are some popular brands I compiled while reading a bunch of different forums [Soompi, Fashion18]
CG Outlast Pressed Powder
CG Smoothers SPF 15 Tinted Moisturizer ..light to medium
Mac StudioFix
MAC oil Blotting powder in medium
Thank you <3 _________________ CHECK OUT MY SALES LIST:

If you feel the need to wear foundation, get one with SPF. Don't skimp on the foundation .. if you're going to actually spend on something, spend on the foundation, and maybe get a consultation [at MAC or something], and make sure it's the RIGHT shade. If you're going to go slightly more high end, ask for a sample so you can check out how the shade looks in different lighting on your skin. The rest of your make-up could be amazing, but if your foundation is the wrong shade or makes you break out, what's the point of everything else?
I've tried different foundations, and I always go back to a drugstore one [Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse] .. why? Because it doesn't break me out and it's actually the right shade. It might not have the PERFECT coverage I want, but if it's the right shade, that's all that matters with me. When I tried more expensive foundations that had good coverage and were good for my skin but were SLIGHTLY off in shade, I felt really self-concious. So I'd reccomend a consultation, find out what shade works for you, and then you could either purchase it or take the sample with you to a drugstore to find a perfect match.
Just look for "non-comodogenic" and "non-acnegenic". However, in my experience, even if it says that sometimes it still makes me break out .. it depends on you and what you're sensitive to. Just remember to get a good facial cleanser to get it all off at night, and it will be actually beneficial if you get one with SPF .. and save yourself the huge hassle of the effects of sun exposure when you're 35.
For concealer, I actually just use my foundation, sinec it has pretty heavy coverage.
For tinted moisturizer, I tried that, it barely gave any coverage .. it helps give a dewy look though. The only reason I think I'd use it would be if it had SPF protection. I actually uesd the CoverGirl one you mentioned, it gave a bit of coverage but it didn't actually help to cover blemishes or discolourations, itj ust slightly helped to even out skintone. I have oily skin and it actually made me break out a lit tle, but it may have been from other factors as well.
For powder, I actually use CoverGirl CG Smoothers Pocket Powder .. I've tried TONS [MAC, Bare Escentuals, etc.] .. and in the end I go back to this .. because it doesn't break me out and it's actually the right shade! I like pressed powder because it's CONVENIENT .. I can actually take it with me when I go places and I can just toss it in my bag. Good for the summer. Loose powder is fine for doing it at home, but I'm clumsy and spill a lot .. plus you definitely will need to invest in a good brush if you're going ot use loose powder. And it's far more difficult to bring it around with you.
For blush, I don't use blush and can't give you any good tips. I use bronzer instead, but usually I'm too lazy and don't bother putting anything at all on my face except eye make-up, haha. My skin is clear *knock on wood* so nowadays I don't really bother.
I also think application has a lot to do with it .. you could have the perfect product, but if you don't apply it properly, what good is it? You might want to invest in a good brush you could use for your face.
Anyway, if you're a make-up newbie, there's no need to go all out right away. Instead of foundation, if you only have a few zits, maybe go for a concealer and a pressed oil-absorbing powder with medium coverage that is your shade. The concealer will help hide the redness of pimples, and the powder will help keep you oil-free and more "finished" looking. My powder acts as a foundation since it has pretty good coverage. Summer is coming, so go for something light. |

All I have and still wear is mainly mascara (Maybelline [the pink one with the pink lid, but some have green or black lids]), concealer (again, I think it's a Maybelline Cover Stick although Clinque is good too), and Sally Hansen cornsilk pressed powder or this other powder stuff by Marcelle.
Usually though, I am lazy and I just wear mascara. Mascara alone makes a big difference! _________________

| ya, they kinda said it all, but I have to add something, lol. I didnt read all of what they said but my suggestion would be just to start off with a simple clean look (concealer, blush, mascara) and then move up in baby steps by adding eyeshadow, eyeliner, and maybe even lipstick. I would also definately get a makeup consultation. I recommend clinique. Mac is good, but theyre makeup is usually alot heavier and they put on alot of eyeliner and eyeshadow. Clinique is more natural. Well hoped I helped. |

I have two colors of the Loreal true match. One for my face and one a little darker and pinker for blush. Stays on longer and works for a more natural look if you already have rosey cheeks. (I do, and if I use regualar blush, I look like a doll, in a not so good way.)
When you apply face makeup, makesure you don't spread it upwards, it can clog your pors and make the little hairs on your face stick up.
when you do your eye makeup w/ eye shadow, try not to close your eyes. It may sound wierd, but you don't walk around with your eyelids closed all day? Just use the index finger of the hand you aren't using and pull up your eyebrow when you apply the eyeshadow. Can't help much with eyeliner (close your eyes, then though), I just use eye shadow and make it look like I used eye liner.
The above is for a natural look, I'm guessing that's what you want, sinse you are a "newbie"
maybe spend a day testing out everything we all told you. That's what I did to perfect my skills. _________________
