im going to new york city in about a month with a school group && we are going to a broadway show and staying overnight. we are also going shopping in Chinatown, SoHo, and Macy's. i was wondering if any of you have any good ideas of where i should go within those locations and what i should get, because i have yet to do any really serious shopping!!
also if you have/find any websites of stores and boutiques, that would be greatly appreciated :] _________________

I had a whole bunch of ideas for what to post but now I forgot. I haven't been to NYC in about 11 months I guess, so almost a year.
Mm. Madison Ave is must check out, we spent alot of time on 5th Ave. There's an enormous A&F across from Trump Tower.
Hmm. There's tons of boutiques in SoHo but nothing rings a bell right now lol. I love 5th. |

The shopping district isn't really in Chinatown...you could get cheap souvenirs and knock-off stuff I guess. I was in NYC two-three weeks ago, but I didn't go to Chinatown since I've been before.
I'd say Midtown -- 5th Ave, Madison Ave are places you should go. They're not really in the area you're going to be in, but I don't see why you shouldn't go there! Abercrombie, everything's there. It's like Shopping Central!
Scoop or Scoop it Up!, Intermix, Searle are higher end boutiques that you could look at (they all have websites). Anthropologie's also in SoHo too. With SoHo, most of the stuff's higher end, but if you walk a street or two behind the busy busy streets, you could probably get really good bargains.

Go to Magnolia Bakery if you have a chance, they have heavenly cupcakes, best I've tasted. or Buttercup Bake Shop. Or Billy's Bakery.

Most of the department stores are in Midtown -- Barney's, Saks, etc...there is a Barney's Co-oP and Bloomingdales in SoHo too.

Oh, and if you get a chance to go to Times Square, go to the Hershey's Chocolate factory thing. It's huge.
I'll add more if I think of stuff. |

applecrumble, have you had sprinkles cupcakes?? I've been there a couple times in LA, I thought they were better then the Buttercup bakeshop. LOL. Both put Vancouver's "Cupcakes" bakery to shame though (and sadly enough I keep going back to cupcakes on denman for more!! LOL)
I love Scoop, forgot about them. Definately must see ... I LOVE how they organize everything by color!!
I almost fained at the site of Henri Bendel and Bergdorf Goodman, those are must see too (well for me :icon_yahoo: )
Oh and TAO in NYC isn't a club like the Vegas one, so I'd go there for dinner. I'm a picky eater so I kinda had to special order a bit but it's still good. Amazing inside. |

No I haven't tried Sprinkles. I'm actually in LA right now, so I think I'll drop by since I'm staying in Beverly Hills (I just found their site after I read your post lol). To be honest, Cupcakes here is nothing compared to the other bakeries. Have you tried Magnolia Bakery in NYC? It's not franchised, I don't think, so you should go if you have a chance
I actually really loved Henri Bendel and Bergdorf, but I didn't suggest them since they're more high-end and I don't really think they would have time to go on an overnight school trip! I'm personally a fan of Barney's and the Co-oP too...all those department stores are "must go" whenever I'm in NYC!
I agree about TAO. Great spot for dinner, atmosphere -- everything about it. They'll probably need reservations. |
