The chic, sleek ponytail is back!
Thank goodness...for once there is an easy style out there for the days when we need just a little extra sleep! These ponytails are low maintenance. They are a classic and beautiful way to pull off a polished look as well as a great way to secure your hair if you want it off of your face and neck.

Pony's also focus attention to your cheekbones. It's a little trick that expert hairstylists have been using for years to make women look refreshed and awake...sort of like you've just gotten a face lift! Calvin Klein is also an advocate of the ponytail. Here is a look from his Spring show.

Do it yourself tips!
For this style, you can work with day old or dirty hair. Begin by brushing your hair so that it is completely tangle free. If you create a ponytail that has knots in it, you are only asking for trouble down the line.
If hair is wet, apply a serum and then blow dry back, away from your face until it is smooth and dry.

Next, section your hair into three sections - the top and two sides. Leave the top section loose and pull the sides back into a ponytail and secure the hair with a snag free hair elastic, $3.50 for a package of eight.

Then, brush the top section back and use another hair band to secure the ponytail. Tip: if you would like some height on the crown of your head, you can back-comb, or tease this section of the hair just a little bit before securing it.

To give your hair a super polished look, you are going to want to give it some shine. I recommend using an enzyme enhanced spray shine such as Alterna Hemp Seed Spray Shine, $19, to help nourish the condition of your hair effortlessly! FYI - spritz lightly for maximum shine.

Lastly, once you like the look you've created, spritz some hairspray all over in a light mist to keep your pony and wispy loose hairs in place.

It says you can tease the front part of your hair if you want some height on the crown of your head...but doesn't teasing make your hair frizzy and all tangly?

You're welcome guys! I'm so glad that this style is back cuz it's so easy to do...and i'm really lazy so my hair won't have to look so plain all the time now!

^ Not if you carefully section out a little bit of hair, add some smoothening product (gel, mousse..) and create that little "puff" above your forehead.
Sort of like this:

i'm sure you get what i'm trying ot describe! I can't find a good pic, sorry. =P

The aggravating thing about hair trends is that fashion can turn something simple, like a ponytail, into something incredibly complicated!

^Yes!

Gah, if I wanted to do that, I'd just pull my hair back into a ponytail and use something to shine it up on top.. which it looks kinda greasy.. so I probably wouldn't.. but anyways! It seems so complicated XD

I have the same question as greenV.. how do you tease hair?

I think you just backcomb your hair a bit at the roots. Just a bit to create volume, not so much that your hair looks like a rat's nest.

How-To: Teasing Your Hair

Big hair is back! And since the glossary post about hair teasing turned out to be so popular, I thought I'd create a little do-it-yourself guide so you can see just how easy it is to create some volume at your crown.

For step-by-step instructions, read more

Step 1: Using a soft bristled hair brush, give your head a thorough brushing until all tangles and knots are gone.

Step 2: Next, take a metal comb or teasing brush and divide hair into two-inch sections. Set the section you are about to tease aside, and clip the rest so it stays out of the way.

Step 3: In one hand, hold the section of hair you are going to work with by the ends. Make sure the hair is straight up in the air so that you can access the area underneath. Using your free hand, take the comb and back-comb your hair in short strokes in the opposite direction from which it grows.

Step 4: Pick up the next section of hair and repeat the process until all of the desired sections of hair have been teased. When you are done, gently smooth hair over with the comb and generously spray your hair with a firm hold hairspray to ensure longer lasting volume.
