For those in uni, i was wondering how often is it that you use your university email address and for what purposes. I chose a silly username not knowing it would serve as my email address and now i'm deciding if i should delete my whole account because of it. |

My university email is pretty standard.. firstname.lastname@university.ca, so because I have a silly hotmail email, I use my university email for all "official" things, like my resume, as well as university communications with TAs, profs and counsellors. You also get a lot of emails from student groups and the administration on that email address. I think it'd be well worth it to try and change it to your real name. _________________

Well my university gives your email address, so you don't make it yourself. It's just first initital, middle, and last initial, plus 3 random numbers. I only use it for school related things so far. Just for receiving messages and emailing profs/students. I might use it for things like resumes, or anything I'd need a more professional sounding resume, but I have another email address for that already. _________________

Yep, at my school it's given to us and it's quite random, it usually includes first initial, last initial, random initial (or some combination, might be first initial, random initial, last initial, etc.) @ university. ca
I use that e-mail for only school stuff pretty much, my regular hotmail e-mail is my name so I use that for resumes and everything else. Because you tend to use your university e-mail for correspondence with profs, TAs, and advisors, it's best to stick with something more professional I would say. |
