I went to get my hair cut today and my stylist was really worried about my scalp (as opposed to my hair). She said that I had a lot of red bumps and dandruff and oil; on top of all that, my hair falls out like crazy. She asked me I wanted to do a treatment for it (an extra $25). I did it anyway because I knew she wasn't just trying to sell me more services. I have always known this about my scalp, ever since I got lice in grade 4, it's always been an issue for me that no stylist has ever brought attention to, even when I asked them why my hair fell out so much more than other peoples. But what is this called? Do I have a fungal infection? Some scalp condition? And what should I do?
The same brand that made the treatment she put on my head, Phyto, also makes a shampoo she recommended. But it is $26 for 6.7oz (which is very expensive for me, a girl who lives on $3 Garnier). But the product has rave reviews. Should I get it? Or should I just go to a drugstore and get Head & Shoulders? I would save about $20, but is Head&Shoulders just as good? Just as effective? Would it be worth the money? Does anyone also have *this*/whatever my scalp has and has alternative treatments?
:3 please reply! Am desperate not to be bald by 30!!! _________________ [aka mitsukoshi]

Last year my scalp got sunburned pretty badly and it was flaky and peeling and there was some pussing because I would scratch at it. My mom bought a special Head and Shoulders which is for extreme dandruff and flaking. It's in a dark blue bottle but I'm not sure of the price. It can't be that expensive though. And after a few uses, it worked really well and my head wasn't flaking anymore. As for your hair falling out, that might be stress related so you might want to go to your doctor. _________________

I personally would splurge on the Phyto because it might treat it completely. I think the Head and Shoulders might just take away dandruff. But maybe you could find one for oily scalps. Is your hair oily? It could be that if you used lice shampoo that it dried your scalp out or something. Maybe you were allergic to it. Could the red spots be pimples? It's possible. Maybe try the Phyto, and since there's not a lot then when it runs out resort to Head and Shoulders if it doesn't work. _________________

^It seems weird that if it was a reaction that it'd last since grade 4.
I'd say go with Phyto. It sounds like what you have is not just dandruff, or not necessarily something Head and Shoulders can fix. If you're not ready to invest in that, you can always give Head and Shoulders a shot (don't they come in those mini travel bottles?) and if you don't notice a difference, go for Phyto. _________________

First of all, is you hair oily ? It's maybe where your problem comes from since an overproduction of sebum on the roots can endanger the balance of your scalp. No healthy scalp, no healthy hair. You should then buy a specific shampoo for oily hair and pray...
If not, scalp psoriasis could explain your red bumps and your dandruff. A lot of people are affected by this skin condition, especially on the scalp. It's caused by a traumatism that makes your cells want to protect themselves more than it should be. Instead of getting rid of the germs by being renewed more, the dead cells form red patches that can itch. There is no magical cure for this illness, except temporary treatments, avoiding stress and exposing yourself to the sunlight. I think hairdressers are not experienced enough to help people that are struggling with psoriasis. Take an appointment with a dermatologist if your problem doesn't get solved soon. Just in case... _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die tomorrow. |

^^ I love your vocabulary. You are my idol.
Psoriasis was the word I was looking for! Yes that would definately explain it. I highly doubt lice would stay on your head that long so psoriasis would explain a lot. _________________

A normal doctor could diagnose what you have, but he wouldn't be able to prescribe you any treatment. He would rather refer you to a dermatologist since this one meets people that are in the same condition as yours every day. _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever.
