Well as we all know March Break is coming up soon! I really like this new Jet Setters thing Happy

So this topic is for listing tips and ideas on how to stay comfortable and worry free at the airport and on the airplane, and to give packing ideas (regulations are strict now...making it a bit harder...).

My first tip would be bring things to keep you occupied on the plane!

(as you can see I am not very helpful, which is why I am looking for ideas for when I go to France) Happy

Well for packing, definitely roll your clothes!! My mom is an amazing packer and always does this. Plus it keeps things relatively wrinkle-free. Other than that, bring versatile pieces and versatile (and comfortable!) shoes.
And don't forget that you aren't allowed liquids on the plane!

Avoid using bathrooms on the plane. They are scary. =(
Bring a small cushion for your ass, I wish I did, because it was uncomfortable and numbing without one.
Bring hand sanitizer in solid form if there is such a thing.
Bring Gravol just in case, too.

I recommend bringing a huge bottle of water...I get so dyhydrated when I fly. Also..I know most people say its all about the window seats..but if you can get an aisle see..its so nice because you can stretch out much better.

^You can't actually bring water with you (unless you purchased it in the duty free area after security checkpoints.)

You can only take certain stuff with you on the plane (and it has to be in a clear plastic bag.) Check with this page.
Don't have any coffee before or during the flight.. it will make you more anxious, and will affect your sleep cycle (which will be screwed for a couple days because of the time zone difference anyway.)
Drink lot's of water on the plane.
Walk around periodically, to get the blood flowing in your legs.
Bring chewing gum for the flight and landing to help reduce your ear popping.

^Yeah, the day they set all of those regulations, we went somewhere. They through ou tthis lady's brand new perfume. I felt bad. It was a crazy day in the airport.

Bring a tote bag or something that you can roll up easily that fits in your suitcase so you have space for all the stuff you buy.

Keep all your documentation in a ziploc bag so it's easy to pull out.

Change your money before you get to the airport, it's usually more expensive there.

Pack a couple of snacks for in between meals on long flights (or if you're flying Cathay Pacific, remember they'll give you free cup noodles!! I ate so many on all my flights to/around Asia.....)

Once you choose everything you're going to take with you-rethink everything! You ALWAYS overpack.

Bring a small carry-on bag with a couple of necessities. LIke an extra shirt, toothbrush, brush. Just in case you spill something on yourself or lose your luggage, at least you have a change of clothes and a couple of things to clean up with.
Wear comfortable clothing and light layers so that if you are going from a colder temperature to a warm one you are still warm when you leave and then have appropriate clothing underneath. Wear socks and be prepared to have to take off your jacket and shoes.
Bring snacks and headphones so you can listen to music on your ipod or watch tv.
If you are bringing more than one pair of shoes, wear the heaviest ones (like runners) and pack the lighter ones (like flipflops)
Bring money in more than one currency (so you have money to buy things in different airports and arent stuck with all american or all canadian money)Pack all of your liquids and aerosols in a ziplock before you leave home so you dont have to do it in the lineup at the airport.

Pack lots of stuff to do in your carry-on. Proof that you should bring extra pants and undies is that I had my water in the cupholder on the back of the tray and then it fell down cause it didn't latch properly, and I got all wet. So bring clothes! (don't put your water in the thing on the back of the tray, lol)

(the flight attendent was French and didn't understand it was water, she thought I had to "go to zee washroom")
Bring magazines, mp3 player or ipod, etc. Air France has cool little personal tvs and they provide you with headphones made for their things only (they have two prongs), earplugs, and a sleep mask. But I brought my own sleep mask. Also a comfy pair of socks is a good idea. And an inflatable neck pillow that I was greatful to have and it took maybe 4 breaths to inflate.

I also had a ziplock bag of mini shampoo, toothpaste, my toothbrush, and soap in case my luggage got lost...which CAN and will happen. Our teacher's was left in Paris when we flew to London...luckily they gave her 100 bucks because of it! So she bought new jeans Happy

I brought some snacks in zip-lock bags and bought a drink after customs. Oh also gum is a MUST HAVE. Not only is it a good flavour to have in your mouth after a long flight, but for me the changing altitudes was really painful to my ears when we descended, I wanted to cry. If you have a cold it is worse so bring sinus relief meds or advil.

Make sure you don't overpack with stuff in your checked luggage. Bring stuff you can mix and match and try to share the packing with a friend for things like straighteners and hair dryers. On the way home my luggage was too heavy and I had to take some things out and put it in my carry on...it was 2 kg over. All my souvenirs! It was 14 kg heavier coming back than going there :O shocking. (It's cause a lot was in my carry-on before). Don't get your luggage too large like I did and that shouldn't happen. I am a huge overpacker, but hey I'm prepared.

So I basically just wrote a small novel, lol.

^Think of rolling up a paper or a yoga mat? Just that, with clothes.

I've never rolled more than 1 shirt, but apparently rolling a few at a time save even more room?
I did that for a while in my dresser and it saved a ton of space.

Yeah, the rolling of the clothes is a good one. I've been doing that since grade 8 when I went on my first hardcore camping trip...I tend to overpack so I had to fit everything in my 65 L hiking bag! Not an easy feat when you have to fit your sleeping bag in there too...haha.

Another tip is wear comfortable clothes, and in layers, for the plane. This varies from person to person, I usually wear my Lululemons or a pair of worn-in jeans that fit just right...this is important cause if I'm not wearing something comfy, I can never feel comfy on the plane, ESPECIALLY if I have a long flight! And plus, airplanes can get really cool/warm, so you'll want to be well equipped for either.
