OMG !!! I can't believe they're making it into a movie ! It's a bit early to start a topic on it cuz it will only come out in February 2009, but I want to know what are your impressions and thoughts about the adaptation.
What do you think about the cast ? Do you agree with the little twist they made in changing the novel action from London to New York ? Do you have any doubt about the colorful clothes Isla Fisher is wearing in the movie ?

I didn't even know they were making a movie! But judging from the pictures, it's definitely going to be COMPLETELY different from what I imagined in my head. To be honest, I'm not really liking the outfits... _________________

I hope the movie lives up to the books! _________________

So instead of it being in london, its gonna be in New York? Does that mean that the 2nd book is merged in. As in there wont be a sequel? Cause would she go to London then?
A lot of people say that the second book is better than the first, (as in WAY better) but i liked both.
The outfits are very over the top, but she is a shopaholic, so it makes sense. _________________ In Europe, without any computers. See you when I come back!<33-Serb- |

^Yeah, they probably are merging them. These type of movies can usually only do one, esp. if it doesn't live up to the books. _________________

As far as I know, they merged the first three books together in one movie. We have no clue if Becky is still British or not though.
I agree with greenism. It's going to be completely different of what I expected. In my mind, Becky Bloomwood was a fashionista with a classic, elegant and effortless style like Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada. I think the costume designer took the wrong inspiration cuz the wardrobe seems to come from the movie Legally Blonde. Even if the colorful outfits emphasize Becky's sweet personality, nobody would wear them in real life, especially the bridesmaid dress.
Do you think Emily Blunt would have embodied Becky better than Isla Fisher ?!
VS
And what about Luke ?! Hugh Dancy is hot, but he looks a bit too young for a businessman. Would you have preferred Patrick Dempsey ?!
VS
So I guess I will try to separate the books and the movie. I'm sure it will be a great movie on its own, but not an adaptation of the Shopaholic series. _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die tomorrow. |

^ I agree. I didn't think her style was outrageous, I mean she's wearing an orange furry shrug in one of the pictures! Hahha. I think Isla might do a good job though, she has the kinda quirky ditzy thing down pat (The Wedding Crashers anyone)? I think Emily Blunt is too sophisticated and smart looking to be her.
And I agree, Hugh doesn't look hardcore enough to be Luke. I always thought Luke was really handsome and kind of intimidating when you first saw him. |

I can't believe that they're making the novels into a movie too!
I like Isla Fisher but she just doesn't really seem like a person called Becky Bloomwood (although I'm sure she'll do an excellent job).
Ever since I've read the books, I've pictured Becky as a brunette with a straight shoulder-length bob. Emily Blunt does kinda seem like a better Becky, based on appearance, but I agree that she may be a bit too sophisticated looking.
And I would prefer Patrick Dempsey over Hugh Dancy for this role; Hugh does seem awfully young, appearance-wise. But if it were Patrick Dempsey, then the couple would be really similar to Enchanted because Isla looks like Amy Adams a bit (the hair)
Some of the clothing choices are a bit outrageous and not what I envisioned at all (way wilder than I thought), even though some are really cute. _________________ used to be 'sw33tlilhugz' on the old f18. (; |

wow yeah i kinda hoped that she would be british and in london... i also imagined her to be the classic fashionista...
i kinda like patrick dempsey as luke... hmm.
i'm not sure if i'll see this movie. it might ruin the books for me because i was obsessed with those books too a couple of years ago lol. _________________

emcee : Haha, don't forget the dalmatian-print jacket ! What a fashion crime !
treecow_ : I agree with you about the clothes. I didn't like them at all when I first saw the pictures, but they don't bother me that much now. After all, they completely changed the story and they only kept the shopping addiction of the main character. So I guess the outfits are great for a crazy fashionista who lives in New York. I particularly like what Isla Fisher is wearing on the fourth and fifth pictures.
I kept asking to myself which actress would have been the perfect Becky Bloomwood. I finally come up with this conclusion : NOBODY ! The popularity of Becky Bloomwood lies in the fact that we can all imagine her in the way we want. She can be in the twenties or thirties, she can has blond, brown or red hair, she can wear over-the-top and colorful clothes or even have a British refined style. Personally, I always pictured Becky as the girl we can see on the cover of the French translation. I didn't search very far, I know...
Since the movie doesn't live up to the books, I think they made a smart choice in giving the role to Isla Fisher. She will certainly bring the frivolous and clumsy side of Becky. However, I would have loved to see Emily Blunt show us what she can do. Beyond her sophisticated look, I'm sure her talent is underestimated. The scene in The Devil Wears Prada where she's eating pudding was funny and pathetic enough to leave me without any doubt about her abilities. _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever.
